We all know how strange, for lack of a better word, Susan Collins is. She supports Democratic bills and still votes Republican. We know never to count on her crossing the aisle. She fakes being progressive, then wimps out. Seriously now, what has she done besides talk a good game, vote Republican, and take up a seat and breathe the air?
Well, she made quite a mistake, and it’s coming back to not just bite her, to take a large chunk of her, figuratively speaking. It seems there was a “scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours” back in 2022. Why is it coming up now? Perhaps Maine has gotten tired of a milquetoast and wants new blood. Perhaps she isn’t available for her constituents. We could have a grand time trying to make a list of reasons. Or someone would like to show how she ran a race.
These dollar amounts are not small. She’s resembling this guy, who happens to be out for all he can get, her screaming-baby, orange-faced god. She is not nearly as good as she seems, with what we now know is the milquetoast, and won’t actually do something for the state Senator. Somehow, we are not heartbroken++ by this news. If anything, it’s laughable. We laugh at her in Congress, and laughable when she’s home. The façade has been shattered. Aw. And here we are with a visit from Raw Story:
Shock reverberated online following revelations that a defense contractor’s confessed pay-to-play scheme implicating Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) and potentially other members of Congress that triggered an FBI bribery investigation was later dismantled following President Donald Trump’s return to office.
According to internal emails reviewed by ProPublica, Navatek’s relationship with Collins was central to the scheme. After a 2019 meeting at a Washington coffee shop in which Kao’s company funneled a $150,000 donation to Collins’ super PAC through a shell company, Kao told colleagues Collins had committed to securing $ 32 million in naval contracts for Navatek. Kao told the FBI that Collins, at a company event that year, told him, “You’ve seen me deliver.”
Yes, Ms. Collins had better be brushing up on her deny, deny, deny, redirect, obfuscate, attack. All she needs to do is watch a couple of Trump’s interviews, and she’ll get it right down, easily enough. Kao spoke with the FBI for three days in 2022. And Kao, at the time, was facing prison for campaign finance and fraud charges (thank you again, Raw Story). Yikes. We don’t actually know how much of what Kao said was true. But Ms. Collins is lucky.
When Trump got back into power (1.5%), they gutted the FBI’s public corruption unit, and the same for the Justice Department. The FBI agents working on this case in 2024 had enough information to request a broader bribery investigation, including a conversation with Lindsey Graham (RIP) about a dinner with Kao. And it’s time to stop using Raw Story information.
But seriously now, Susan Collins would have to have been close to the bottom of a list of corrupt senators, and now we find out she’s just as bad as almost everyone else. Oh, how the mighty wimpy have fallen. Her image is certainly tainted. But she’s also still a milquetoast. The Senate race for her position should be very interesting. We might be surprised.
