Much has been made in science fiction of time travel taking us to a future which we don’t recognize, or nowadays cryogenic freeze doing the same thing. The plain fact of the matter is that for me, personally, had I been in the world of 2013 and somebody had said to me, “Let’s do a short hop forward, just ten years,” I would have said sure.
How different could it be, right? In 2013 I was enjoying the second Obama term, lulled into my liberal stupor. I knew nothing from presidential scandal, certainly not in recent years. I laughed when Fox News got uptight about tan suits and Dijon mustard.
Watergate was but a memory of my youth and believe it or not, I didn’t even know who Donald Trump was. At least not from his TV show. But one TV show I did find entertaining was Jerry Springer and this is straight off of that.

Jerry Springer made the comment back in 2016, “Hillary Clinton belongs in the White House. Donald Trump belongs on my show.”
Trump came on the scene in 2015, a mere eight years ago, and what he has managed to do is turn American culture into an open air, 24/7, version of the Jerry Springer show — with guns. It could conceivably be comedic in nature, if it wasn’t for the fact that people now die on a daily basis.
Cast your mind back to the No Drama Obama years. We did not have mass shootings once a day, sometimes more than once.
Fox News saw its way clear some 26 years ago, when it began broadcasting, to subtly infer that white America was in deep trouble. Now a lot of its viewers are terrified and literally shooting people who show up at the wrong door or pull into the wrong driveway. A certain percentage of Americans are living lives behind locked and bolted doors, armed to the hilt, ready to take on the enemy out there that they have been assured has targeted them and wishes to destroy their way of life.
The advent of Trump on our political scene has been viewed as a reset, a calibration back to zero, because Trump is the new normal of the GOP. And they can’t seem to move away from him. That much is sure.
Let’s see what does in fact happen in Florida when the legislative session ends on May 5 and Ron DeSantis is expected at that time to formally announce his bid for the Oval Office. We live in interesting times and the next few weeks will tell us quite a bit about what election year 2024 is going to look like.

How bad?
In 2013 and for all the years before that and quite a few after, gunshot WASN’T the leading cause of death of children in the USA, unlike today.
If that was the only malign right wing influence we get rid of, many people would be much happier.
And alive.
Their policies bring death.
“Fox News saw its way clear some 26 years ago, when it began broadcasting, to subtly infer that white America was in deep trouble.”
Just a nitpick, but you meant “imply.” The speaker “implies” while the listener “infers.”
