Here comes another addition to Donald Trump’s List of Losers, meaning anybody who has the hubris to stand up to him. Snapchat has announced that it will no longer promote Trump’s content to it’s Discover page. Trump’s account is still up and people can still access his comments, but they won’t feature him. Well, that’s something. Axios:

Why it matters: Snapchat is taking action on the president’s account for comments he made elsewhere. That’s going farther than other big tech firms and signals a commitment to aligning content served to users with core values, rather than making moderation decisions based narrowly on each post made on its own platform.

What they’re saying: “We are not currently promoting the President’s content on Snapchat’s Discover platform,” a spokesperson for Snapchat parent Snap tells Axios. The company made the decision over the weekend.

  • “We will not amplify voices who incite racial violence and injustice by giving them free promotion on Discover,” the spokesperson added.
  • “Racial violence and injustice have no place in our society and we stand together with all who seek peace, love, equality, and justice in America.” […]

The big picture: Snapchat is now the second major internet company to take action on the president’s account, following Twitter. Facebook is under intense pressure to take more action on Trump’s posts.

  • Tech companies have broadly been taking more action on content from world leaders and policymakers, as the coronavirus pandemic and global protests have heightened the stakes of misinformation and inflammatory language.

Trump’s gotten a few slaps on the wrist from social media and it’s doubtful that he is learning anything, although he did go ballistics over Twitter last week. While I wish Twitter would ban him outright, at least tiny baby steps are better than nothing at all.

  1. I wish they would all go further too and that Facebook would get with the program, but at least this should burn himself’s cookies a good bit.
    Heh heh heh

      • If we can forgive Murf his frequent typos, surely we can excuse yours, Tin. And yeah, nothing that man has ever put on Twitter has ever helped him.

        • Tin we can definitely excuse yours, we all do it from time to time. Since I started having tremors, my typing has gone to sh!t and we won’t even talk about my handwriting. We can all forgive each other. Murf has glaucoma, no forgiveness necessary, I got nothing but love for him.

          • So long as we can understand each other, Old, who cares, right? We’ve all been out of English class a looong time now.

          • I have more trouble typing now than I did even three or four years ago. Fingers aren’t in sync with brain, I guess.

          • Oh honey, I can relate. Once in awhile I have one of those good old days where my fingers fly in all the right places but it’s very rare ((((((p j))))))

  2. Folks, in the words of Uncle Joe, this is a big effing deal. When you’ve got a major company like this making moves like this against your opponent, it means you’ve already won the argument. Look for this trend to accelerate and speculate with me how long it takes to figure out where the right side of the future profit margin is.

    • I honestly don’t remember. I grab so many so them. But this one is good. Not the first Trump Toast I’ve seen either, but the best.

  3. Anything that ticks Trump off makes it a grand day. I want to be around when he really explodes and they put his fat worthless rear in a straight jacket. Even though I really don’t give a damn how he goes as long as he goes.

  4. Axios says Facebook is under intense pressure to take more action on Trump’s post. I am not sure Zuck is feeling any pressure. FB stock is at record highs right now. When I see subscribers quitting Facebook in droves, then maybe I’ll believe he is feeling some pressure.
