I can’t believe I missed this, or that it hasn’t become a recurring theme in the months since. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse always, always impresses the hell out of me. Every time I see him on TV I lament the fact Dick(head) Durbin of my home state of Illinois insisted on ascending to Democratic Leader of the Senate Judiciary Committee. We, and the country would have been far better off with Whitehouse. Still with all his gravitas it turns out he’s got a witty side, and characterizing Trump-Bondi as ‘The Gangster and Gong Show” is brilliant.
This will be short and sweet. Back in August Whitehouse was as he often has been interviewed by MSNOW’s Lawrence O’Donnell. Do yourself a favor and whenever you see in advance Whitehouse will be on The Last Word make it a point to watch. Or record it and watch later. Anyway, they were as this short piece from Breitbart of all places. Yes, you read that right and they not only have a more or less transcript they show a four minute segment of Whitehouse and O’Donnell’s interview. And yes, Breitbart emphasizes Whitehouse calling the Trump DOJ under Bondi ‘Equal Parts Gangster And Gong Show.’ In the freaking headline of their piece!
I find myself asking if I’ve somehow stumbled through some rip in the time-space continuum into a reverse reality. But I saw Whitehouse on O’Donnell’s show earlier this evening and heard him use that phrase. Like I said I missed it before. Maybe you’ve heard/read it but this was the first time I had and my jaw dropped. So I did an internet search which is where I found the linked Breitbart clip. Breitbart! I’m not just stunned they published it, but that it’s still there. You can click on the link, or watch a slightly longer version from back then when it was still MSNBC. If Gangster and Gong Show isn’t good enough Whitehouse gets more pointed. He calls out ‘thug Emil Bove’ as the true gangster but also includes Ed Martin and his trench coat antics outside Letecia James NYC home for ridicule. Well, I can’t believe this is the first time I’ve heard this term. I can assure you it sure as hell won’t be the last I use it!
With a bit of editing it perfectly describes the entire Trump administration – let’s go with the “Gangster Gong Show.” If you’re lucky enough to remember that show just imagine the most awful acts you saw, and wondering why it took so long for someone to bang the damned Gong to put it to an end. THAT is what our country and the world desperately needs – someone to hit that damned Gong so hard it falls to the floor!
For now I thank Senator Whitehouse. I’m starting to think I should learn more about his bio other than his credentials on Judiciary. He’s got the experience and gravitas, and it turns out the ability to come up with a bit of wit that might make him one hell of a Presidential candidate.

Denis, This is OT, it has to do with that post the other day where you asked how Democrats ought to respond to regretful MAGAs, or perhaps what we might called “recovering MAGAs.” What we need to do is listen to them! So I’m posting this interview with a guy named Richard Logis because he’s very articulate. I don’t think I need to say more because for anyone interested, it’s self explanatory. And very important.

It’s pushing 1am where I live so I only watched six minutes of this but thank you for posting it. Might I ask you also post it as a response where this first came up? I think it might do more good there.
From what I saw I think despite the length it will probably be worth the time to watch the whole video. Perhaps learn things that can be turned into a stand along article. A support group for MAGAs who left that helps them deal with friends and family still in the cult? I’d like to learn more about that, and how people can access it. I’d love to be able to, when encountering someone with doubts mostly shut the hell up and refer them to a “MAGA influencer who changed his mind” (in those words) in the hopes that rather than engage someone I know I’ll have little patience with might look to people who have held all the MAGA views, who speak the same MAGA language if you will.
Like the Klan, MAGA is I believe a virus. The Klan has been driven into dormancy for a time but given the right conditions it can flourish like a large, ugly and painful to look at and even more painful to endure outbreak. In many ways I think much of MAGA is a morphed Klan.
Anyway thanks for posting this. Hopefully tomorrow you might have something you want to chime in regarding this article.

couple thi gs about the gong show. it was never mean. the contestants generally weren’t very good but they knew it. it was all for fun. andsecond, chuck barris later claimed he was a hit man for the cia. he wrote a book about it which he claimed was true but was passed off as a work of fiction. it was was made into a movie.
I’ve been wishing Senator Whitehouse would throw his hat in the Presidential ring for years.
I also admire Sen. Whitehouse and his wit and intelligence. Always enjoy his appearances on Last Word. We need more of him!
