If this is actually true, it’s a damn miracle, and we don’t get those anymore. Could it be? Is it possible? We know SCOTUS has been Trump’s for quite a while. The absolute immunity still angers me, and it’s been a long time to be holding onto that still. But, well, oops. That’s a personal problem (ha). However, it does appear that Chief Justice Roberts is finally running out of patience with Dunderhead Donnie. Took long enough. With respect for Raw Story:

Legal commentators say Chief Justice John Roberts is pushing back against President Donald Trump after warning that criticism of judges can spiral into personal attacks. Speaking this week at Rice University in Houston, Roberts suggested that criticism of court rulings can become problematic when it shifts “from a focus on legal analysis to personalities.” “Their opinions are subject to criticism,” Roberts said of judges across the judiciary during the appearance on Tuesday. “But personally directed hostility is dangerous, and it’s got to stop.”

Agreed. We can think of any number of judges who have been personally verbally attacked by Doofus Donnie and/or his maladministration. Say, everyone on our BadA$$ Judges list. And anyone who pushed back in Minneapolis. And so on. The judges are being judges, not some sort of wimpy yes-men and women. Attacking someone for doing their *job* is crap. And it gives people ideas, such as trying to hurt or kill someone, because Deranged Donnie is mad at them.

Analysts view the remarks from the conservative justice – who Trump has targeted, most recently for his ruling involving the president’s tariff policy – as a thinly veiled response to the MAGA leader. “In one 48-hour period, the chairman of the Federal Reserve, the chief judge of the United States Supreme Court, and the Chief Judge of all things federal in the District of Columbia, all took on Donald Trump,” Michael Popok, a legal expert and host of the “Legal AF” podcast, said Friday. “And John Roberts, it looks like he’s had enough,” he added.

Well, Donnie was having a good old time, wasn’t he? Every one of them pushed back, some more emphatically than others. But at least it looks like Roberts is finally opening his eyes. It took long enough. SCOTUS has done a helluva lot of damage in the past year or so. If Roberts has come to the realization that most of SCOTUS sucks, well, it’s a start. We’ll take it and hope that legal water keeps wearing away that particular stone.

Attorney and legal analyst Karen Friedman Agnifilo said Roberts’ comments were notable but suggested a stronger response – and consequences – may be needed. “It’s great that the chief justice is speaking up now,” she said. “But I think they have to be stronger and I think they really have to talk about how terrible this is…because it’s also eroding confidence and trust in the judiciary.” Friedman Agnifilo added that Trump’s pattern of publicly targeting judges and their families has helped create what she described as a “dangerous” environment surrounding the courts.

Dangerous will do for now. Judges, families, and all are being threatened by what a court does in a case. Defendants see Dimwit Donnie getting all these cases decided in his favor, and they expect the same thing to happen with them. But except for SCOTUS, the majority of judges run their courts according to the actual law, not the law (or lack thereof) of the ‘president’. We have to be aware of this. It’s becoming dangerous for *anyone* associated with a court, not just judges. This needs to stop. Let’s hope Roberts’ words trickle down to the people who need to know.

See you soon!

Friends, I know everyone begs you for money. I promise that among all those asking for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest-working. We’re a group of old, disabled people, except for one writer in his mid-50s. The rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the chance to keep telling the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula

  1. BLAH BLAH BLAH goes John Roberts and then goes home to iron his robes, doing absolutely nothing to even slow Trumpler down, never mind stop him on anything. Roberts will be remembered in legal history as the worst chief justice the USA ever had, no matter what words he occasionally spouts.

    • Yea, that’s about what my reaction was. Words are nice but don’t do a damn bit of good these days. Action is what’s needed. Hence the “maybe”.
