MAGAs were sooooo sure when they somehow managed to squeeze Trump’s fat orange butt through the doors of the White House Again. They were going to see all the Epstein Files released. And we’d have four years of America First and NO more foreign wars. As you know, they are feeling betrayed on that first one and for good reason. Now, after unease followed by relief that Venezuela was only a snatch and grab operation they thought Trump was keeping his promise on the second. Well, with Secretary of State Little Marco Rubio’s admission that we started a war with Iran because Bibi Netanyahu was going to, and we had to cover his butt MAGAs have another reason to feel betrayed.

That we told Bibi to back off I’m sure of. But he’s got problems of his own and staying in power is the only thing keeping him out of jail. We don’t know the endgame for Gaza but it’s coming and with it reason to keep Netanyahu in power because of the ‘don’t change leaders during a war thing.’ So Bibi decided it was time to strike at Iran again. And not with some one and done airstrike. Like I said Team Trump and even Trump himself almost certainly pleaded with him to stand down. However like some Israel leaders before him Netanyahu said ‘kill my ass – then then cover it with U.S. might’ and here we are.

As the Daily Mail reports Rubio pretty much laid it out. According to Little Marco an Israeli attack on Iran would result not just in retaliation against Israel, but on other U.S. assets in the region. So we attacked ‘pre-emptively.’ In briefing lawmakers on Capitol Hill his claim was we faced an imminent threat of retaliation. Uh, part of the problem is that TRUMP put all kinds of assets in harm’s way. A huge naval buildup has taken place in the waters close enough to launch strikes at Iran. It’s not like we didn’t have other assets, bases and allies in the region but they had good defensive capability. Not good enough as we’ve seen (four are already dead and several times that wounded) but putting so many ships with striking distance means Iran can also shoot at THEM.

‘There absolutely was an imminent threat,’ Rubio stated. ‘And the imminent threat was that we knew that if Iran was attacked, and we believed they would be attacked, that they would immediately come after us, and we were not going to sit there and absorb a blow before we responded.’

Rubio said the Department of War determined that a defensive posture following an Israeli attack would only open the US to more casualties. Five American soldiers have died so far in combat.

‘We went proactively in a defensive way to prevent them from inflicting higher damage,’ he said.

If that last part sounds weirdly stupid to you you’re not alone. “Proactively in a defensive way?” I don’t know whether to call that kind of logic convoluted or circular. Maybe we need to coin a new term, ‘Convoluted Circular.’ As I think about it we created a self fulfilling prophecy. Trump telegraphed drawing down our small presence in Syria and followed through. Iran and friends were ready so it’s fair to say Israel had cause for concern. Fine. If they felt they were about to be hit, then strike at the forces assembling against them next door, NOT way the hell off in Iran.

For all the delusional thinking there’s no way in hell there’s going to be regime change in Iran via airstrikes. They have long been prepared for a decapitation strike and thoughts that some moderate element in the officer corps of the Revolutionary Guard might take over is as likely to happen as Trump naming me Commandant of the Marine Corps. NOT going to happen. If Trump thought at least Republicans would rally around him including MAGA then his mind is further gone than we thought. MAGAs of course might cheer a little “Bomb Bomb Iran” singalong but as casualties mount and the realization only a large ground invasion would affect regime change will have them singing a new song: Hopefully someone is putting the finishing touches on a song about ‘What Happened to America First?’ that would include verses about starting wars, and the withholding of the Epstein Files too. And affordability when not just gas but other things jump in price.

Congress is supposedly going to take up measures that might limit what Trump is doing. Good luck with that but at least there is vocal opposition. Rubio’s claim that there would be hearings if we had NOT acted pre-emptively (as in covered Israel’s ass) isn’t playing well:

The revelation outraged both Democrats and Republicans.

‘Secretary Rubio’s remarks indicate that Israel put U.S. forces in harm’s way by insisting on attacking Iran,’ Congressman Joaquin Castro reacted on X. ‘And the administration was complicit—joining their war instead of talking them down.’

Conservative pundit Matt Walsh wrote: ‘So he’s flat out telling us that we’re in a war with Iran because Israel forced our hand. This is basically the worst possible thing he could have said.’

Walsh, no liberal to be sure nailed it. Trump has us in a war with Iran because HE let ISRAEL force our hand.  Trumpty must really, really want that Trump Tower Gaza he’s talked about!  I could go on a long rant about all this but I’d like to leave you with some things to think about. Oil costs are going to go up and to mitigate prices the U.S. Strategic Reserve has already been drown down 40% to keep prices in check. That’s dangerously low if you didn’t know. We’ve pretty much shot our wad on controlling them as the whole world supply gets messed up.

Another thing is that yes, Iran only has so many missiles and drones they can shoot off. They’ve provided plenty to Russia to use in Ukraine and proxies in the region to attack our vessels and allies. The problem is WE have expended much of our own anti-missile capability. We’ve been using them faster than we can replace them, and Iran knows that. And, as I noted we don’t just have bases in the region and allies to protect but a large armada as sea.

One last, really troubling thought no one is talking about is this: China is silent. They have done their share of business with Iran and know that absent the U.S. sending in at least several hundred thousand ground troops (which would take time to get to the region I should add) when this more or less cools down we will have depleted our naval capabilities to both carry out attacks and defend our ships to a truly dangerous level. And Taiwan has long been a place they’ve held off on only because they feared the U.S. would step in. Formidable as China has become they aren’t a match for us. Unless we don’t have the armament with which to fight.

Think about that last part as you think about how we are expending treasure and even (already) blood because Trump wouldn’t slap Netanyahu/Israel. And ask MAGAs things like “Is it Israel First now?”, or “Are we now the United States for Israel?”

Friends, I know everyone begs you for money. I promise, among all those asking for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest working. We’re a group of old, disabled people, except for one writer in his mid-50s. The rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the chance to keep telling the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula
