It’s scarcely a news bulletin that Where Woke Goes To Die or Make America Florida are not slogans which have inflamed the country as a whole. At least, not so far. Ergo, Ron DeSantis’s polls continue to tank (yesterday’s Emerson poll has him at 21% to Trump’s 59%) and he is alarmed. He is also looking for a new slogan, for any of you who have long harbored fantasies of running a Republican presidential election. Now is your chance. DeSantis is listening to anybody who might be able to bail him out.
Translation: He took his ‘Where Woke Goes to Die’ bs outside FL, it was a colossal failure & he is dropping in the polls, so he is scrapping the entire plan he had for the next year and doing a reboot. Ron and Casey are like a couple of college filmmakers who think because they’ve had some luck in the local university film department, that that qualifies them to go to Hollywood and become the next Spielberg or Scorcese. They’re both not reading the room — which in this case, stretches 3,000 miles and Alaska and Hawaii — and they’re not in the race for the right reasons. They’re both drunk with power.
Nevertheless, it is possible that DeSantis’s gambit could pay off. Even though he’s badly trailing Trump, it is plausible that Trump will be so encumbered with his own legal problems that somehow the mantle will pass to DeSantis.
The Emerson poll shows Mike Pence rising, to a soaring 6%. Maybe Pence will be the nominee. That would certainly be a howler.
Your guess is as good as anybody’s. The most informed pundits are watching this open-mouthed and trying to guess what’s going to happen next.
