Ron DeSantis described the Tuesday midterms as an “extinction-level event for Republicans.” Evidently he believes that he is the famed Phoenix bird that will rise from the ashes, rebuilding the party. I will believe this when I see it.
But all the signs are there. The Washington Post is reporting that DeSantis activated his federal PAC to see if it would make any money and DeSantis has enquired of at least one political strategist about a job.
Before Tuesday, Vice President JD Vance seemed like the heir apparent to President Donald Trump’s political fortunes and the front-runner in the nascent 2028 race: an assumption upended by voters’ wholesale rejection of Republicans and the administration’s policies.
From his 2024 bid, DeSantis has learned he will need to do more media appearances if he wants to succeed, said the person close to him. He also learned he cannot wait too long before entering the presidential race; in 2023, he opted to wait until after Florida finished its state legislative session. Those months of anticipation gave the Trump team ample time to define and attack him.
Another comment which DeSantis made on Tuesday was that “nobody can ‘do’ Trump.'” Is that what DeSantis’s last run for office was, him attempting to “do” Trump? That would certainly explain his robotic, wooden performance. Nobody knew what he was doing, now we finally get a glimpse underneath the veil.
Maybe Ron DeSantis is the new face of the Republican party. Rupert Murdoch thought as much when DeSantis won reelection to the governorship of Florida. “DeFuture” the New York Post screamed. The screaming stopped shortly thereafter or at least became muffled as DeSantis fumbled through his campaign, stopping shortly before the New Hampshire primary.
DeSantis is going to offer an “alternate to Trumpism.” Let’s see what that looks like. Evidently DeSantis doesn’t see J.D. Vance as filling that bill. He intends to blow right by Vance, apparently, and into the nomination.
The next two years definitely are going to be intriguing. Newsom v. DeSantis?

It takes real stones to think that you or that Obese wannabe John-Boy da Couch F’er or any Republiscum filth have a rat’s ass chance in Hell of being elected President in just two years after the beat down inflicted on We the People over that last two years.
