This is beautiful, imaginative and tasteful. I mourn to see it go. And you know that these images will not be present one year from tonight. And God alone knows what will be there. Red trees with no decorations that inspire Handmaid’s Tale memes? Or gaunt, white scary trees that belong more in a Halloween haunted house than anywhere near a Xmas celebration? That’s what we’ve seen in the past, along with costume changes and photo ops for Melania. (Hey, the Xmas ornaments, NFTs and jewelry aren’t going to sell themselves, okay?) So take a few moments and enjoy the White House that is bowing out and prepare yourself mentally for the circus that is coming in. And remember that old Turkish saying: “If you send a clown to the palace, he doesn’t become a king. The palace becomes a circus.”

This is the same White House that Donald Trump called “that dump” and that Melania said, “Who geeves a fuck about Creesmuss decorations? But I have to do eet, right?” Wrong, Melania. I think at this stage we might as well level with one another and you can delegate the “duties” of a First Lady to somebody else. Just don’t make it Laura Loomer. Of all the folks in Trump world, she’s about the only one who can bottom your lack of taste.
Remember this madness? I can’t imagine how Melania can dream up anything worse than this but I’m sure she’ll find a way. Remember, this was conceived by the same mind who ripped out Jackie Kennedy’s Rose Garden.
That was the first Trump Xmas in the White House and it only went downhill from there. So enjoy normalcy while it exists, for a few more days. Because we are going back to the tacky, the tawdry, and the tasteless. CostCo meets Versaille with a splash of Stephen King.
You can’t buy class. I don’t know if it’s something you’re born with or something that you develop. But it emphatically is not something that you can buy. There is no respect in Trump world for the traditions that are American and are embodied in the White House. None of these people read history or know anything about culture. They lack imagination.
The White House is merely another place to build up the brands of the various members of the Trump family. No other president before Trump (and hopefully no one after) has ever demonstrated such a lack of respect for the White House and government as an institution. Trump is a game show host and Melania is a porn model and that’s what we’ve got as the avatar of American culture for the next four years. God help us.

Agreed and nicely said, Carol. The Obamas were a class act, so are the Bidens. It’s just that low-life period in between which denigrated the White House and the presidency so badly. And now we have it back again, even more indecent and more humiliating for our proud nation. Trump 2016 was a blatant backlash against a black president, Trump 2024 is a continuing intolerance of even the idea of a black female president. The damage being done to the USA is immeasurable but we’ll all be able to watch it happen, like a train wreck in slo-mo.
