Mark Meadows began his quest to find non existent election fraud the day after the election. He sent Bill Barr many texts and documents, most of which were nonsensical. Among those was an “affidavit” from Mellissa Carone, the temp who was hired to clean the glass on fax machines and who rose to prominence as an SNL cold open when Rudy Giuliani made her his star witness on voter fraud in Michigan. Those were the days.

If you want to read details of Meadows’ communications with Barr, the Los Angeles Times posted on that today. Of note is the final paragraph, where it’s revealed that Meadows sent over a document on the doings of the Lincoln Project, evidently with an eye to having them prosecuted. For what is not clear.

The final messages from Meadows to Barr included a Microsoft Word document detailing an effort by the Lincoln Project, a political action committee led by Republicans who opposed Trump, to get Pennsylvania attorneys working on election fraud legislation fired. Barr did not respond or forward the document.

Here’s what the Lincoln Project has to say about that:

STATEMENT ON MARK MEADOWS PUSHING ATTORNEY GENERAL BILL BARR TO ATTACK THE LINCOLN PROJ

June 30, 2022 – A statement from the Lincoln Project on Mark Meadows pushing Attorney General Bill Barr to investigate The Lincoln Project as detailed by Sarah D. Wire in the Los Angeles Times:

“The Lincoln Project was the only SuperPAC Trump truly feared in the 2020 election. Now we know how far he’d go to punish us for leading the fight against him.

“Today, we learned the Trump White House tried to use the power of the Federal Government to come down on us. After we highlighted their corrupt courtroom antics to overturn the election, the Trump Campaign created a 12-page research brief attacking The Lincoln Project that Mark Meadows passed to Attorney General Bill Barr. Its purpose? To pressure Barr into attacking us for engaging in protected political speech.

“We said well before the election that Donald Trump was a power-hungry authoritarian who would stop at nothing to cling to the Oval Office. Even before January 6th, 2021 we warned he would resort to violence and cheating to hold power. Other groups stopped fighting after election day. We never did, and never will.

“Trump’s low-rent strip-mall lawyers threatened to sue after The Lincoln Project put his daughter and son-in-law on a Times Square Billboard, but trying to use the Department Of Justice to attack The Lincoln Project is a shocking abuse of power.”

Unfortunately, to this crowd, shocking abuses of power are standard operating procedure. They don’t know how to function any other way. I imagine that the Lincoln Project will be able to get hold of the document in question and that should give some insight into the tactics of Trump world beyond what we already know about their use of “low-rent, strip-mall lawyers.”

With regularity we find out that Trump believed he could use the DOJ as his personal law firm and Bill Barr as his own private lawyer.

I wouldn’t hold your breath waiting for Meadows to respond to this. He hasn’t even responded to Cassidy Hutchinson’s testimony and that’s a five-alarm fire. By comparison, this is leaving the coffee pot on. Meadows has got a hell of a lot of explaining to do on a number of subjects and having the Lincoln Project after him isn’t going to help matters.

  1. I have to wonder, at what point did Barr decide to go with revealing anything he wanted about Trump’s stupid ways to the next serious investigation, J6 qualified right away, but was there an earlier probe he may have considered …?

The DOJ seems to be running a parallel investigation to the J6 probe now … they have a LARGE task ahead, bringing Trump into court without any injuries to Trump or the Fed Marshals, Trump in chains is a dream we all seem to have, sure would put a kink in the GOP as they attempt to find a new Harpo Marx for President …

I hope the DOJ gets busy and makes Trump a whimpering fool soon, NOT closer to the vote.
