There’s a reason that the adage “follow the money” is as tried and true as it is. Time and again we see that when you’re wondering why somebody would do such and such, if you take a look at the pecuniary advantages of taking a certain action, then the scales drop away and it all starts to make sense. Alina Habba is out there in the world shilling for Donald Trump 24/7. She attends MAGA conventions, she accompanies Trump to sporting events. Habba is far more committed to seeing Trump reelected than Melania is, if we are to judge the actions of both.

And why might that be? Two reasons: Habba needs Trump’s money, or somebody’s money, desperately. She and her husband, Gregg Reuben, are up to their eyeballs in tax liens and warrants. Secondly, you know that these inconvenient debts will be discharged if and when Trump would return to the White House. Is it any wonder why Habba is Trump’s most persistent cheerleader?

In Touch Weekly reveals:

Habba, 39, currently has two active liens filed against her law firm in the state of Maine by the Department of Labor. She and her law firm, Sandelands Eyet LLP owe $1,146, according to paperwork reviewed by In Touch and filed on December 3, 2021. Another tax lien against her LLP was filed on October 24, 2022, for the amount of $1,047.

Meanwhile, Habba’s hubby, Reuben, has a staggering amount of active state tax warrants in New York from Albany county that list him individually, as well as his LLCs. Reuben, 51, owes two payments of $93,628 and $179,335 that were filed on August 22, 2016, $484,323 from November 12, 2020 and $59,295 from April 6, 2022. And several other of his LLCs were also hit with tax liens totaling more than $770,000, which he is personally liable for.

“A lien is filed in a way that is attached to anything you own [and can be] real estate or personal property,” explains Jeremy Wallace, a lawyer who specializes in real estate and bankruptcy in New Jersey. “Theoretically, they can come and raid your house and take your Rolexes. And it can spiral, if you cannot pay one year, why pay the next year and so on.” Reuben and Habba’s many tax warrants will hinder their ability to buy or sell property until they are paid off, Wallace added.

People who fall way behind on taxes like this are people who can’t manage money at all. The IRS is most forgiving as long as you’re making payments. They would prefer not to have to spend resources tracking people down, levying on assets, having criminal trials. They just want their money. So it makes perfect sense for a real life Schitt’s Creek couple to hook up with somebody like Trump. When you’re desperate for money and somebody is writing big checks, it makes complete sense.

If the sitcom Schitt’s Creek is new to you, it’s the story of an uber wealthy couple and their two spoiled adult children who end up losing everything to the IRS due to a crooked business manager. They own the humble town of Schitt’s Creek and so they go there to live in a couple of motel rooms and be “normal” people. Write in a character who’s a lawyer and who gets involved with Donald Trump, and you’re there. Perfect casting.

Unless there’s something that I’m not seeing in the story, these tax issues look to be with regard to state tax issues, something the Feds have no say in. The document provided does say it’s prepared in accordance with the Maine Employment Security Law and, after doing a quick name search, the signature on the document, Kerry P Hekl, is listed with the Maine Department of Labor, not the US Department of Labor.

    • There’s more to it than what you saw here. I’m going to stay on top of this and see what else comes up. I’m sure Habba needs what Trump pays her so she can stay out of hot water. And she’s probably making some nice income being a MAGA talking head, as well.

      • I understand that BUT there’s not much that Trump–even as President–can do when it comes to STATE tax issues. That’s part of those pesky 9th and 10th Amendments that reserve certain matters to the states. It would be a different issue if the Federal Department of Labor were going after Habba and her hubby for labor issues but, just as they’re able to set higher minimum wages, states can have labor regulations that differ from the feds and as long as they’re stronger than similar federal labor laws, the Feds don’t intervene.

        • Pretty much anyone can file a tax lien. By the bias in this article, I guess she should stop working until they are paid. Do yiu really think that Trump could or would somehow dismiss these liens. And if you think she is shrilling for a job in the Trump administration then she will be taking a huge loss
