Andrea Reeb served as the district attorney for New Mexico’s Ninth Judicial District until November of 2022 when she was elected The New Mexico House from that same district as an anti-choice pro-gun Republican, and though 2022 was a year in which supporting Trump too fervently cost more than one Republican in the Southwest (see Kari Lake), I think this screenshot from her FaceBook Page demonstrates subtly where her allegiances lie:

And while I don’t think that her decision to charge Alec Baldwin with involuntary manslaughter for the shooting on The “Rust” movie set…

“First Judicial District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies and special prosecutor Andrea Reeb said they are confident they will win convictions in their case against Alec Baldwin and “Rust” armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed for their alleged roles in the death of Hutchins, 42, on Oct. 21, 2021.

“We felt very confident that it was going to be a criminal case pretty close to the beginning, once we started looking at everything,” Reeb said.

“I’m sure he was confident he wasn’t going to get charged. But he isn’t above the law and he is somebody who committed a crime, and we’re going to hold him to the law, hold him accountable,” she said of Baldwin.

Prosecutors announced Thursday that Baldwin and Gutierrez-Reed will each face two counts of involuntary manslaughter.“

…was entirely based on animosity towards him for his impersonation of the Orangeutan on SNL, but rather a happy confluence of circumstance whereby she could both pander to her Republican base and appear to be concerned for the public weal, her appearance on Sean Hannity last night has we wondering if the prosecution is not indeed just to assuage the hurt fee fees of her MAGA voters.

Let’s check in with Acyn:

Yup, and…

Yup

Does seem weird.

To much success, I would expect.

Yup

Ah, Ms. Reeb, you might want to get off TV and attend to your case, because you have just made things much harder for yourself.

Can you imagine Jack Smith going on “The View” to explain to Whoopi and Joy how his possible indictment of the Orange Ogre is not political?

  1. If it wasn’t political she wouldn’t have run directly to Hannity. Her office would release a statement: “It is the district attorney’s job to assess facts and uphold the law in every case. We do not comment on ongoing cases.”

That is literally the only acceptable answer.

  2. I’m confused. If she was elected to serve in the NM House of Representatives, how is she able to prosecute a case in court? Even if she’s a “special” prosecutor, shouldn’t she be attending to the job to which she was elected to do instead of playing in a court room?

She shouldn’t be doing anything at all as far as this case is concerned.

But, yeah. I can’t wait for Baldwin’s legal team to bring up the concept of “prosecutorial misconduct” with her little guest appearance on “Hannity.” And, quite possibly, a little dose of “political retribution” and “political bias.”

Maybe the NM House can start its own investigation into her conduct and give her a choice: Keep her seat in the House or resign and go back to the DA’s office.

  3. Anyone who believes a bureaucrat, elected to office, is a fool. ALL prosecutors are politicians and their decisions to prosecute or let slide are ALWAYS political. Equal Justice Under Law. Another horseshit myth in the land of gullible morons who cry at ballgames when the national anthem is played. Ask the American Indians, black folks, or potsmokers sitting in jail what they think. White, middle and working class folks are the targets of this propaganda. Make no mistake, it IS propaganda.

  4. Here’s what I think. I think that Alec Baldwin was set up in order to punish him for his role in ridiculing Trump on SNL.

I only hope the jury is sensible enough to realize it.

  5. As someone with a lot of experience with firearms, and who even used one as a prop on stage I’ve made my feelings clear elsewhere that someone experienced like Baldwin (not just with firearms but movie production and independent productions which let’s face it aren’t always as “tight” with production values/processes) should have checked that damned pistol himself along with the armorer when it was handed to him. So yes, I believe there was negligence on his part. Whether it rises to criminal negligence instead of civil is a separate question and I don’t know how much of what I’ve read is fact and what is open to question.

Having said that I agree with what others are saying. If the prosecutorial decision was that the facts warranted the charges that have been filed and politics never entered into it then why the hell would ANY prosecutor go on a prime time conservative OPINION journalism show with one of the biggest Trump fluffing conservatives out there and hawk her case? Not political? I call bullshit.

    • I’m going to guess that she has higher ambitions. She’s building her MAGA cred and like most republicans these days, she has no concern for ethics so she’ll probably do well.

    • Negligence I can agree with as no one should ever point a gun at anyone, whether filled with blanks or not. I grew up with guns and my relatives beat that into everyone around firearms. But, that being said, then let’s charge Trump with the hundreds of thousands of involuntary manslaughter deaths for hiding, then lying about covid for over a year. He also did nothing as the head of the feds to provide truth, protective equipment or vaccines. This led DIRECTLY to unnecessary deaths. I heard a federal prosecutor make a good case for charging him. If I chase someone and I have a gun, knife, etc., and they run into the street and get hit by a car, I didn’t directly kill them, but I’m responsible. Charge that mutherfucker!!!!

    • I agree, once again Dennis,

As a kid, I became fascinated with a 22cal rifle that our family, who owned and operated a sporting goods shop had for sale, an old Marlin white dot model, 16 groove single shot bolt action, I still have and occasionally shoot this gun …

My dad who worked at a radio station as a broadcast engineer in his regular job, said we could go out on the transmitter tower property and shoot it there since there were berms and no near private property …

The first rule he taught me, was every gun should be, “Loaded”, when first picked up, NEVER pointed at anyone you don’t want to kill … always keep the barrel pointed straight down to the ground until the bolt was pulled back and the chamber was clear … then the same rule, with the bolt closed, the safety on, you cannot see the load so do not point the gun at anyone, it is still loaded …

Handling that small rifle became an honor to me, I re-blued the barrel and action and refinished the fine grain walnut stock, all with Casey products, put a fine scope on it so I can group multiple shots in a 1″ circle at 80 feet … When the racoons maraud our country property, they learn a nasty lesson, their up to 1 mile circuit passes right by our place …

I use quality ammo 22ga long rifle mini mag rated bullets small, but properly placed VERY effective …

I don’t have use for a heavier gun or a rapid fire version … Those are for gun nuts or kid killers in schools and shopping malls or where large groups of people can be dropped by a single gun … those military style guns should be left to the REAL military troops … Our Iowa hunting laws just opened up the AR-15 style rifle to hunt even if they can kill at two-three football fields away easy …

Oh yeah, Iowa is a very RED state …
