After yesterdays appearance before his committee by Secret Service Agent Robert Engle, whom the Orangeutan throttled in his attempt to hijack the Presidential Limo and join his Mike Pence bound lynch mob enroute to the Capitol, Maryland J6 committee member Jamie Raskin could not go into detail about Engle’s testimony but did have this to say:

Huffington Post

“I will tell you that from everything we’ve learned, we know that the former president was incensed and enraged when he was not being taken to the Capitol,” Raskin said. “He was adamant that he be able to join the mob and approach and enter the Capitol with them.”

There was “conflict about whether or not he would go to the Capitol, and he was adamant that he be able to do that,” Raskin added. “I imagine that he thought that he would enter like Mussolini being carried on the shoulders of his supporters and enter the Capitol.”

Excepting of course Mussolini’s followers marched from Naples to Rome, more than 110 miles, before making their grievances heard before the Capitol. I doubt the Proud Boys and Meal Team Six could have huffed out more than mile or two before collapsing prostrate on The National Mall.

Raskin summed up Engles testimony this way:

“The president said something to the effect of, ‘I’m the fucking president, take me up to the Capitol now.’ To which [Engel] responded, ‘Sir, we have to go back to the West Wing,’” Hutchison testified.

Raskin said Trump apparently believed then-Vice President Mike Pence would reject electoral votes certifying Joe Biden as the winner that day.

“Donald Trump really went to bed the night before, on the evening of Jan. 5, believing that he was going to be staying in office for another four years,” Raskin added. “And he believed that through the day.”

Not exactly new ground that, but it does raise the question of why Engle was hauled up to the Capitol yesterday. Surely it was not just to plow over old ground.

Raskin was tight lipped about something though, I suppose we will have to wait for the J6’s final report to find out.

But what is the point of reports and finding and testimonies if drumpf is just allowed to continue his March to infamy and burn the country down in the process.

I guess, like with Mussolini, we’ll at least have a written record.

While it’s likely that not all of Mussolini’s followers on that march had served, Italy WAS involved in a little war less than half a decade earlier (we now call it “World War 1”) and I’d guess that a fair number of his supporters had been involved in it to some degree or other. For most of the Jan 6 people, “war” is simply a thing they play at in video games and battle reenactments (at best). That’s not to say they’re not playing with their little phallic stand-ins (target shooting is likely the most “action” any of them see with those things).
