Conspiracy theories are nothing new, but it looks like what has given QAnon a life of its own is the fact that it can be molded to embrace and contain all the other conspiracy theories out there. Plus, there’s a tremendous advantage now that Q has gone silent: anybody who wants to can just jump in the game and say anything they want to about who or what QAnon is and there is no rebuttal coming or likely to come. Tremendous advantage that, to have a premade platform and nobody to contest you when you make your own additions or revisions to it. Color this situation out of control.

QAnon has become one stop shopping for CT. You want to talk about sovereign government? Q is your place. You want to talk about the Illuminati, the Rothschilds, George Soros, space aliens, Q is your place. Where things really get nuts is the four way intersection, with CT on one corner, politics, religion and science on the other three. That is exactly where we are now. This is why an honorable public servant like Dr. Anthony Fauci can be persecuted and vilified by the right-wing press to the extent that he has been.
Not so long ago, publicly claiming this level of lunacy would have gotten you a mental health examination. Now apparently, being detached from the real world is not only not a problem, it’s actually a badge of honor of some sort and wins you many friends and followers.
You, too, can be completely bonkers and vote in America. As Thomas Jefferson is credited with saying, “People get the government they deserve.”
Didn’t matter how ‘fervent’ the Nazis were, they were evil, murderous cult members. Period. It took a proverbial bullet to stop their deluded asses. Hopefully, we’ve learned to stand up to these assholes early so it doesn’t come to something worse down the road.
People pushing that size of lies are doing it for the benefit of someone. Don’t fall for the lies, point out truth, and let others know they’re lying liars.
You know, if Al Franken were to craft a sequel to his classic “Lies: And the Lying Liars Who Tell Them,” it would be at least a decade before he could release it since there have been so many names to have emerged since the book’s original release in 2003. (And that time frame, of course, presumes he’d would stop considering anyone after 2020. The way things have gone lately, it seems that for every extra year added to the cut-off point would result in at least two extra years before the book could be released.)
These Q-nuts have not one down a rabbit hole, they have found a wormhole (Deep Space 9 style) to an alternate universe where batshit crazy loony toons strait jacket and padded cell crazy is the norm!
Um, you do understand the “rabbit hole” reference, right? It’s from Lewis Carroll’s “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” when she follows the White Rabbit down a rabbit hole where she literally finds the kind of “norm” you described. (The sequel, “Through the Looking Glass” is essentially the source of the other Star Trek premise, the Mirror Universe.)
All the more reason for the (truth-based) media and the press to keep shining the light of facts, science, and truth, keep calling bs what it is. That’s a tall order given that media outlets exist that are in lockstep with the crazies, but I don’t know what else can be done. Talk about the unintended consequences of modern media, the internet, and CT-driven groups. And look at this small group: we care about reality, but crazies only come here to troll. Sorry for this downer, I want to be optimistic, but have lost my rose-colored lenses. : (
