Pro Tip: When You Do Your Insurrection Don’t Put It on Video.

For those of us that watched last night’s Jan. 6th Hearings, there were three main events in the proceedings, the stunning time-stamped video contrasting the inner workings of a democracy in action inside the Capitol with the actions of those who would topple it without; the harrowing testimony of Capitol Police Officer Caroline Edwards describing her and her fellow officers’ struggle to defend that democracy from Proud Boys, Oathkeepers, and regular generic MAGA scum; and the words of British Documentarian Nick Quested who was embedded with the Proud Boys and allowed to film the insurrection live.

The most interesting moment in his testimony for me was when he stated that the Proud Boys had left the “Stop the Steal” rally at 10:30 AM, an hour and a half before drumpf spoke, to walk down the ellipse and prepare for the seditious rioters they must have know would follow.

“ Hundreds of Proud Boys assembled near the Capitol on the mid-morning of Jan. 6 — well before Donald Trump’s speech at the ellipse — and appeared to perform reconnaissance for the attack on the Capitol that they would spearhead later that afternoon.

That was the testimony of British documentary filmmaker Nick Quested, live before the Jan. 6 Committee on Thursday night. Quested was embedded with Proud Boys on that day, and his raw footage of violence during the insurrection was featured at length by the committee.
In his testimony, Quested recalled how hundreds of Proud Boys had ditched the Ellipse and made straight for the Capitol complex at about 10:30 on Jan. 6. They watched as the cops set up bike-rack style barricades, and donned riot gear on the west side perimeter of the Capitol, before circling to the other side of the halls of Congress to see the East side. The Proud Boys finished their recon mission so early that they had time to go out for tacos.“

I guess growing Proud Boys can’t be expected to destroy a Democracy on an empty stomach…

Last night’s hearing certain got a good start in proving what will be the committee’s central thesis – that the President of the United States and his minions conspired with actors outside the government to destroy our democracy.

I do worry about the week long delay between hearings, however. America is perhaps too conditioned to streaming video to hold this episode of “As The Right Insurrects” in their mind until the next comes out.

We shall see.

  1. Another useful tip for insurrectionists: don’t show your face where anyone can see it. I swear, the KKK had the basic brain wattage to understand how not doing THAT could backfire on them.

  2. I’m not going to fall for that, Mr. Durrati. If “the shot heard round the world” had been videoed — oh sorry, they didn’t have video in those days — if the shot heard round the world had been filmed — George Washington and his loyal supporters would STILL be raking in the residuals. Imagine the scene at the airport when they fought the redcoats. And with compound interest since 1776? Give me a break. And that was then, this is now. January 6th was the most historical event in history. And it coulda been even MORE historical, if Mike Pence hadn’t been a total traitor.

  3. During the week before the next hearing, members of the committee will be submitting questions to their witnesses the answers to which will have to be turned in before the hearing so the committee will have time to assess them.
