When the Governor of Illinois has to take to the airwaves and publicly make the request that you just read above, you need not ask what has happened to America. Something is badly out of whack when the governor of this, or any state, feels s/he has to get to a podium and ask ICE pretty please if they will agree to keep the dogs of war leashed and not traumatize young kids who merely want to do their thing as kids and have their night. Frankly, I don’t know which is worse: 1. Living in a day and age where you go to school and can possibly get shot and killed there; 2. Worrying about ICE tear gassing you if you go out with your friends and trick ‘r’ treat.
I agree with Gov Pritzker, last week Ice released teargas in a neighborhood that was bringing kids to a local Halloween parade for the kids. Unless you live in the Chicago area you may not get to see the havoc Ice is causing to the neighborhoods and the children that live there.

It’s not just Illinois, although Illinois is a favorite ICE place, being a blue state and being governed by Pritzker, who makes no bones about his disdain for Donald Trump. Still and all, there is zero reason to traumatize children. When the internecine battles in this country are ruining the lives of our children, things have gone way too far.
That we’re even having this conversation says it all. But it doesn’t stop. Yesterday we posted a piece here where a woman (who turned out to be an American citizen) was begging ICE agents to stop shooting into her car because she was travelling with kids. Kids should not have to worry about bullets flying into a vehicle because an ICE agent suspects their mom (or the driver, in any event) of being an illegal alien. Being an illegal alien should not be an offense which warrants execution in the streets.
ICE harassment is way over the top. Maybe what Pritzker asked for can at least give us a safe Halloween. It’s a starting point, in any event.
Pritzker needs to suggest that Chicago’s mayor order the city’s police to arrest ANY ICE criminal who engages in this horrid behavior. Lock them up and let Drumpf have to go to court to get them out.
