Sometimes when you wake up and smell the roses they have the additional sweet scent of well deserved tears from those upon whom Karma opened a bigly can of whup-ass. Karm’s agent in this case was the DC Bar Association telling AG Pam Bondi to get stuffed – soundly rejecting her attempt to take control by installing her brother as President and Alicia Long (now working for US Attorney for DC Jeanine Pirro) as Treasurer.
Bondi’s brother got an epic beatdown in an election that saw 7,500 more lawyers cast votes than last time. (FYI DC has the largest mandatory bar association in the country) Bradley Bondi lost a mayoral bid by some 70 percentage points. He lost his run for President of the DC Bar by over EIGHTY percent. As CNN tells us the winner, employment attorney Diane Seltzer who ran on a platform of ‘supporting members during a time of great uncertainty’ (and Trump’s threats against lawyers and firms that oppose him make up lots of uncertainty) receive 34,982 votes. Brad Bondi, brother of U.S. Attorney Pam Bondi got 3,490 votes.
I mentioned the percentage Seltzer went by. I like this way of looking at it even better. For every vote LOSER Bondi got, WINNER Seltzer got TEN. Yep, I call 10-1 an epic beatdown! That warms my oh so liberal heart, but as those cheesy late-night product pitchmen like to say “But wait – There’s more!” AG Bondi’s (therefore Trump’s) attempt to take over leadership of the DC Bar wasn’t limited to Bondi’s brother. Alicia Long, associate of Ed Martin who himself is RWNJ, controversial and has recently taken over at Trump’s Pardon Attorney decisively lost her bid to become Treasurer.
Long, as I’ve noted was an advisor to the long-controversial Ed Martin. She’s now the Principal US Attorney under DC US Attorney “Judge” Jeanine ‘Box-O-Wine’ Pirro. I think it’s safe to say AG Bondi is majorly pissed over how things played out:
“I am disgusted by how rabid partisans lurched this election into the political gutter, turning a professional campaign into baseless attacks, identity politics, and partisan recrimination. Never before has a DC Bar election been leveraged along partisan lines in this way, an explicit call for members to vote based not on what’s best for the institution but according to their political affiliations,” Bondi said in a statement provided to CNN on the outcome of the DC Bar election. “Their tactics, which included smearing me over my family and peddling conspiracies about my intentions, were not just an assault on my integrity but on the D.C. Bar’s very mission.”
Accusing the DC Bar members of ‘rabid partisanship’ is a hoot. It’s classic pot calling the kettle black. Pure Trumpian type projection. Any sane, objective person knows full well who the ‘rabid partisans’ were here and it sure as hell wasn’t the 80k plus members of the DC Bar. They just want to be able to go about their business. Some represent Democrats and progressive causes, some represent Republicans and conservative causes. Being lawyers and since money is the same color green whether it’s paid by liberals or conservatives some of the top lawyers and firms represent both! What they don’t like is some politician, even a President telling them who they can and cannot represent.
Anyway if you want something to smile about think about AG Bondi’s bid to take over the DC Bar going down like the Hindenberg. AND the meeting(s) with Trump who will be furious with her for visiting yet another legal humiliation upon him. Yes, the legal roses smell sweet this morning.
