It isn’t a good sign when Mr. Person, Woman, Man, Camera, TV admits that something is exactly dead opposite of what he has been claiming for months now. It makes you wonder if he actually ever listens to himself. It raises the bigger question of whether Trump knows what is really going on, or if he only recites talking points that other people have given him. In all events, we will find out eventually what his tariffs scam is all about. We always do. But for the moment, even he is slipping up.

“It’s surgical.” Yes, it is — the kind of *surgery* where the doctor decides not to heal the patient but just to stab him to death there in the operating theater. Interesting use of the word “surgical.” Conceptually, IF tariffs are used properly, they can be beneficial. But there is nothing surgical or beneficial about this slaphazard method of imposing yuge tariffs across the board. We’re courting another Smoot Hawley disaster all over again.

Not even one year, folks. Not even one year. Say what you will about Dubya, it took him eight years to really do his best insanity. He took us off the economic cliff, just like Thelma and Louise, but the housing crisis did not manifest overnight. No, it took Dubya a while. Trump, on the other hand, is attacking the economy on all fronts simultaneously. He’s planning a gigantic implosion. It’s going to be housing, groceries, insurance, healthcare, education, the social safety net — the whole shithouse is going to go up in flames and all at once.

I fully expect the tariffs to be repealed sometime before the midterm elections. Voila, prices will start dropping and Trump will claim credit! i don’t know if it will help Republicans, but don’t underestimate the stupidity of GOP voters.
