Even Ron DeSantis wasn’t stupid enough to do this and he was the worst presidential-level campaigner I have ever seen in American politics. But J.D. Vance is doing to do for him what Trump has done for both Nixon and Dubya and that is make them look good by comparison. J.D. Vance is not a good public speaker. Nor is he a very good human being, but many’s the human being who is a gifted orator who has managed to cover up their shortcomings as a person. This is some incredible footage from his appearance before a major union today, where he is bombing. And we mean strongly, bigly, bombing.

And imagine calling firefighters “haters.” OMG. I simply am sitting here with my jaw open watching this display. Watch it get hilariously worse.

The joke is a lame one to begin with. And it’s made more lame by the fact that Vance is rattled by the booing. He’s not a good enough speaker to deal with a hostile crowd. Again, Vance’s sole ability is to go on right-wing media and spew vitriol. He’s fine in a siloed environment where he’s being “interviewed” by a pro-MAGA host and the questions are all lead ins to his insults. But in any kind of normal environment, talking to normal people, let alone those whom he has just offended, he can’t cut it. He doesn’t have the skills. And I say hallelujah. It makes the contrast with Harris/Walz all that much more stark.

Tim Walz spoke to this group yesterday and he hit it out of the park. That’s why Vance got boo’ed today.

67 days out from the election and Vance is tanking while Walz is identifying and unifying. This is not a good sign for Donald Trump. And I would not want to be in Vance’s shoes right now. Trump is going to be pissed. He’s got to win the election to stay out of prison and his running mate is a liability, where Harris’s running mate is one hell of a solid asset. (Psst….that’s because she’s so much smarter than you are, Donald.)

  1. Of course he called them “haters”. Anyone who is NOT conscious there are two classes of people, those who worship Magats and “haters”, isn’t paying attention. Your only value to them is what they can get from you. If you aren’t feeding them, enabling them, supporting them, who gives a sh!t about YOU?

    • I think Trump/Vance may go down in history as the most hated ticket in American politics. There have been bad Republican washouts. Barry Goldwater took a hell of a hit when Lyndon Johnson wiped him out in 1964. But Goldwater was not reviled or loathed like this. He was feared as a warmonger to some extent, but nothing like this. Different kettle of fish altogether.

      • You raise a valid and interesting point, Ursula. Just as the reactionary Goldwater was very weak beer compared to the loathsome Trump, so conservative opinion makers of the time (think William F Buckley) pale next to the likes of Alex Jones. Perhaps that devolution has a lot to do with the emphasis now on digital and social media rather than early 3-network TV and newspapers.

  2. Goldwater also marched to the Oval office and told Nixon he had to go. It appears these fascist clowns hate everybody except those that kiss their ring and hand them a big check. To the rest of us it’s a gigantic PHUCK YOU, even to our heroes that lie in the ground at Arlington, the holiest place in America.

    • Goldwater also warned the GOP from becoming so entangled with the Religious Right that their far-right *social* agenda would threaten more traditional GOP values of “smaller government,” especially when it came to social issues.

It’s just too bad Goldwater was ignored, especially as it was coming toward the end of his political career. (Goldwater should’ve done this years earlier but he knew Reagan wasn’t about to completely kowtow to Falwell and his ilk–just mouth the platitudes but not really work towards getting those issues into policy. Reagan was scum but he also did actually hold to the idea that the government didn’t really belong in the bedroom or in doctors’ offices. But, with H W being threatened with losing the Falwell voters and having to be seen as more active in getting Falwell’s social agenda pushed forward, and then Gingrich’s “Contract with America” leading to GOP control of Congress for the first time in over 40 years, Goldwater’s warning largely fell on deaf ears.)

  3. He got booed on the “pro-worker” bullshit, yes. But when he came out with that “populist” crap I could hardly hear any boos, they were drowned out by cheers and applause. And he got a good round of applause when he finished.

I hate Trump and Vance, I am a Democrat and pro-labor. I’m not as young as I used to be, my hearing is also not as sharp as it was, but I’m just being honest.

    • I think part of the problem is that I did not hear the “haters” part of the clip here. I just found it on another site — it’s right at the beginning of his speech. He was roundly booed. But I don’t think it’s here. If it is I apologize.
