If what we’re witnessing is Team Trump’s rapid response to the announcement of VP Kamala Harris ascending to the top of the 2024 ticket, they are in a worse world of hurt than I would have thought humanly possible. Plastic straws? Seriously? If that’s the best that they’ve got coming out of the gate, then this election may end up being more easily winnable than I would have thought. Make no mistake: there is much gnashing of teeth in Trump world because the campaign publicity and strategy was focused narrowly on what an aging codger, fumbler, bumbler Joe Biden is/was. Now that that’s no longer relevant, Team Trump is grasping at straws — literally, it turns out.

The problem, of course, is that it appears that the Trump campaign didn’t do its “research” into the context of the meeting itself. According to reports, Harris was meeting “with disability rights leaders to mark the anniversary of the ADA.”
According to the Atlantic‘s analysis, “Harris’s event was held on the anniversary of the Americans With Disabilities Act and focused on the effect of new abortion restrictions on the disabled. One convention meant to accommodate blind and visually impaired audiences is a brief self-description by the speaker. Other speakers at the same event, all putative humans, did the same.”
The day is still young and Team Trump has done nothing but step into it so far. Consider it an omen, friends, on this day of the full moon. If Chris LaCivita starts howling at the moon later tonight, it would not surprise me.

People have been aware of those outtakes for years. Trump’s pal Mark Burnett at NBC kept them tightly locked down. However, I’m betting he feared someone might break into where they were stored and hand them over to the media, or worse people who could post them on FB and Twitter (back before Musk gained control) so news executives couldn’t keep it all hushed up. So he destroyed them. End of problem/threat to Trump.
