Good afternoon!
I’m looking at an article by LGBTQ Nation regarding questions on a job application for HHS positions. This is disturbing. Multiple quotes ahead. Yes, I cheated. Kindof.
Article: Rachel Maddow stunned by Trump hiring form’s outrageous personal questions – LGBTQ Nation
Trump spokesperson Brian Hughes confirmed that Trump’s nominee to lead HHS – RFK Jr – is actually, really, honestly using an intake form that asks would-be employees about their sex lives, body image, and even their beliefs in the paranormal. (WTF, dude?!)
“They ask you to disclose on this intake form to your potential new employer if these specific personality characteristics, you think, apply to you,” Maddow told viewers, sharing the following examples: “‘I like to show off my body’; ‘I like to look at myself in the mirror’; ‘I don’t have that much interest in having sexual experiences with another person.’”
“I consistently use my physical appearance to draw attention to myself”; “I have chronic feelings of emptiness”; “I love large parties”; “I leave a mess in my room”; “I do not enjoy going to art museums”; “I get upset when people don’t notice how I look when I go out in public.”
And last but not least, here is her favorite, and mine too.
“I believe in things and many others don’t, like having a sixth sense, clairvoyance and telepathy, and as an adolescent, I had bizarre fantasies or preoccupations.’”
What the hell???!!!!!! These are far too personal (and ridiculous)(and creepy!) questions for a job application!! I would be either calling the police or running for the hills. There is NO way I would be answering those questions! These are things that Should Not Matter for a job. We all know RFK Jr is a hot mess, but to have things like this on a job app? For HHS? Noooooo thank you! These are completely irrelevant to how someone would be able to do the job. Where the hell do they get off asking for things like this? For a GOVERNMENT job? This ranks right up there with Area 51, and lights in the sky, and the list goes on and on. No, no, no. Unsettling, to say the least. Let’s just NOPE on out of this.
I would be interested in what you, the reader, has to say. (End.)

Isn’t this against the law? RFK is NOT yet the head of anything so why is he dictating what is on a job application?
and what kind of goofballs will pass this screening test?
My opinion? None. Well, at least any worker that’s good at a job. Of course, we have really “good” conspiracy theorists… Thanks for the comment!
totally seconding this, those are on very dodgy grounds legally. Someone needs to challange that if he really is doing this!
I would think it would be challenged, but lordy the legal aspects are *massive*. Thanks for the comment!
I don’t know about the legality so I don’t have an answer for that part. However, I *completely agree that RFK Jr is NOT the head of anything. This shocked me and kicked me in the gut, not in a nice way, so I thought I’d write about it. Thanks for the comment!!!
Hi, Susan, I can help with some of the basic information on the use of these questions. I immediately recognized them as stole directly from, or based on questions in the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory.
The MMPI has been used for decades by psychologists and other mental health professionals as a determinant of personality and psychopathology. The MMPI is used to help develop treatment plans, assist with differential diagnosis, help answer legal questions (forensic psychology), screen job candidates during the personnel selection process, or as part of a therapeutic assessment procedure.
That is your first clue that no one should steal a few dozen of the 567 questions in the full inventory to determine anything about anybody!! There are now many versions of the test and you can even take it for free online, but using the questions as part of the employment application is dead wrong and has created many lawsuits and regulations in the past. For some types of jobs, such as law enforcement, it can be used as part of the employment process once an applicant is in the final stages of acceptance for the position. But, even then, it should only be administered by a trained professional who can explain to the applicant what it is for and explain to the employer what the results mean.
Anyone who is serious about having a cabinet level position should have intelligence to think through why they would ask a stranger such intrusive questions and what they hope to understand about that stranger afterwards.
RFK, Jr. is doing this without thought and in an illegal fashion. He should not be confirmed!!
Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!!!!!! I appreciate al the information. I learn something new every day 🙂
