Trump isn’t happy with how his revenge tour has been going. Even he has to see Pirro can’t get any protesters convicted even of a misdemeanor in DC (the one indictment she got was for the guy who threw a Subway sandwich at an ICE agent and he was acquitted), and across the river in Virginia the b.s. prosecutions of both James Comey and Letitia James are imploding. Trump’s problem is that judges (and juries) in DC and Virginia actually follow the law and make decisions based on evidence instead of what Trumpty wants. So a not so ‘Double Secret Probation’ unit has been set up in Florida. A number of investigations/cases are in the works and the grand jury that will consider them will be under the supervision of District Judge Aileen Cannon!
For much of my life the 10th and 11th of November were such special days but starting in 2016 they were ruined. I don’t have to tell you why but this year has been by far the worst yet. All I want to do is lie in Bed and sleep until tomorrow. Still, I see some news and goings on and I was appalled to learn about what’s been going on down in Florida. You can read some if in this article from Raw Story. I’d already heard something about some going on in Florida with a couple of career prosecutors resigning/being fired. It seems a Trump zealot down there has a special mandate to run the Trump Revenge Prosecution Tour on friendly ground.
It seems the the U.S. Attorney’s Office from the Southern District of Florida is ramping up efforts to punish Trumpty’s “enemies’ to the point it’s turned into a mass investigation. Reportedly even people like former President Obama and former CIA Director John Brennan are on “get em” list! Last Friday some 30 subpoenas went out and we can be sure that’s just the beginning. Not all of what’s going on seems to be kosher and as I said there have been several resignations and two stood out. In fact, Raw Story tells us MSNBC’s Vaughn Hillyard at least one felt pressured to do something that made them quite so uncomfortable ‘they believed it would violate their ethical responsibilities.’
Well, this is after all a Trump ordered thing so as we’ve seen in other places good, talented people are resigning in protest of before they get fired for lack of loyalty to Trump. It’s got to be particularly bitter for people in their late thirties up to early fifties with good years of service left. Forced out for doing their jobs the way their jobs are SUPPOSED to be done. However as the linked article tells us things aren’t being done according to form:
More than 30 subpoenas were issued on Friday by the DOJ, which reportedly “bypassed what multiple legal experts told MSNBC is standard protocol for its issuance of subpoenas, turning to a member of leadership to sign off on some of them, instead of a line prosecutor assigned to investigate the case.
If only that was the extent of the weirdness, but alas it’s not. It’s just a small taste and things are bound to get even more strange as all this unfolds. And eventually collapses the way the prosecutions up in Virginia are imploding. However let’s stick to the here and now and the near future:
“Typically, you would expect the line prosecutors who are handling the case to be the people who would sign subpoenas,” legal analyst and former U.S. attorney Barbara McQuade told MSNBC.
“It sounds, though, like this is some sort of special project that they’re putting together, some sort of special unit. Executive U.S. attorneys sometimes have in their portfolio special projects. So it sounds to me like this executive U.S. attorney is going to be leading whatever this effort is into this conspiracy investigation. But I do think it’s noteworthy that this is not being handled the way a routine case would be handled for a violation of the law. Instead, it is being handled as a special case with a high-level executive member of the team handling this,” she added.
If only that was all the shenanigans taking place. Unfortunately it’s not. Not by a long shot. Team Trump, especially AG Bondi and Trumpty himself are FURIOUS with the District and Appellate judges in the DC area. Trump howls ‘They play fair! And that’s UNFAIR. To ME!’ So he wants home court advantage and his own hand picked referee. To paraphrase the title song of a delightful movie ‘Who you gonna call, Ghost Busters Judge Cannon!’
So much for the system doing random assignment of cases in the southern District of Florida. If fact it calls into question whether Cannon was actually randomly assigned to hear Trump’s documents case. That’s another topic for another time but I hope it gets looked into someday. What matters at the moment is that Trump’s pet judge Aileen Cannon will oversee all this. Unlike those meanie judges up in the DC area that will rule against prosecutors
“The other thing that I thought was noteworthy about the reporting is that the grand jury to be impaneled is going to be in Fort Pierce, Florida. That, of course, is the district that the portion of the district, the southern district of Florida, that has one and only one judge, and that judge is Aileen Cannon. I don’t know that we should be suspicious of everything Judge Aileen Cannon does, but we do know that her track record in the Mar-a-Lago case with the documents was first to impose some really extraordinary hoops for the prosecutors to go through at the time of the search,” McQuade said.
I love Barbara McQuade but she’s being awfully polite in her assessment. Cannon flat out THREW the Trump case to keep her master happy. Saying she made prosecutors jump through ‘extraordinary hoops’ is a massive understatement. Now however she’ll be falling all over herself to help prosecutors out. I wonder at what point the 11th Circuit will have had enough of her and issue a formal request that a) she be disbarred, and b) a letter is sent to the House Judiciary Committee to draw up Article of Impeachment.
We are going to see a whole lot of legal ugly coming from Cannon’s little one judge courthouse down in Florida in the weeks and months ahead. It will be more Trump Reality TV: Trump Justice, the Cannon Sh*tshow.
