It’s ironic that the Supreme Court is only too happy to revise the law so that it favors the MAGA cult leader whereas just normal Republicans in the State of Nebraska don’t feel so inclined. Lindsey Graham went to Nebraska recently to lobby the state to change its voting laws to a winner take all scenario. Right now Nebraska and Maine have a scenario where they award an electoral vote for the winner of each congressional district. Sometimes all the states electoral votes will go to the same candidate, other times the ticket is split. NE-02 is particularly competitive.

Nebraska Republicans have argued for years that Nebraska should award all five of its electoral votes to the statewide winner of the presidential popular vote, a process many call winner-take-all.

Republicans hold a 2-to-1 voter registration advantage over Democrats statewide, but the 2nd District cuts much more evenly between Republicans, Democrats and registered nonpartisans, a split that makes the 2nd District competitive in national elections.

Pillen had pledged to call a special session if he could secure the 33 votes needed to overcome a filibuster to change to winner-take-all. All five of Nebraska’s GOP congressional delegates wrote a letter urging state lawmakers to pass such a move.

The Nebraska Legislature has 33 Republicans, 15 Democrats and one progressive who is a registered nonpartisan. People whipping votes for Pillen and the Trump campaign have told others they expected the remaining GOP holdouts to join the push for the change if McDonnell did.

Mike McDonnell didn’t, is the problem. So the grand scheme whereby Trump might have been able to win the election by one electoral vote is mooted. At least for now.

“Elections should be an opportunity for all voters to be heard, no matter who they are, where they live, or what party they support,” McDonnell said in a statement. “I have taken time to listen carefully to Nebraskans and national leaders on both sides of the issue. After deep consideration, it is clear to me that right now, 43 days from Election Day, is not the moment to make this change.”

McDonnell said he told Gov. Jim Pillen his stance and suggested that the Legislature put winner-take-all to a vote of the people, as a proposed constitutional amendment, so people can decide the issue “once and for all.”

Drats. Foiled again. Trump does own the GOP for the most part, but this action by McDonnell is reiminescent of when the infamous phone call went to Brad Raffensperger, “I just need you to *find* 11,780 votes.” Lapdog Lindsey was there for that as well. Maybe Lindsey Graham is a jinx. It seems to be a pattern, send the South Carolina governor to Georgia or Nebraska to be the officious intermeddler and it doesn’t work out so well.

Well, we can scratch off the Nebraska *coup* as a possibility. I guess Donald will have to get more creative in his thinking.

  1. It seems DJT is flailing away in a waterfall of bad news, the Courts are still after him and if it comes to Prison, Trump in his smarmy way will dig his term to 20 years to life without possibility of release …

His actions speak so much of his guilt, instead of his salvation coming from more than enough cash to settle his fines, his humped-back whale image is a permanent reminder that, left alone for ANY length of time, the dangers to all of mankind multiply at an alarming rate …
There is no sign of redeeming value in anything trump now and his bravado has faded to a grumpy old man with huge chips on both shoulders, ones put there by himself as his Narcissism has total control, avoiding any sense of responsibility sympathy OR empathy, his uncaring attitude will be his undoing, he is NEVER wrong, was ALWAYS a great business man and now, Donald, go to Prison, kiss your imagined importance goodbye, as that may be the only way you can survive …

  2. The NE “coup” wasn’t much of a “coup” if Maine was going to negate it by also becoming a winner take all state, which they promised to do if NE did this.

I’ve a feeling that perhaps NE republicans kind of want off of the trump train before it goes sailing off the very tall cliff it is head to. It much be this since they easily could have changed their whole shebang pretty easily and I seriously doubt they’d pay a penalty at the ballot box.

    • I think more republicans every day are trying to ease off the tRump train. Notice what Mike Johnson is doing with a continuing resolution, minus the caveat of citizen verified voter registration. Dolt 45 wanted to shut down government rather than surrender that requirement.
