There certainly is no surprise in this announcement, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t newsworthy that there is official confirmation of Russian interference in the 2020 election. Washington Post:

The director of the National Counterintelligence and Security Center (NCSC), William Evanina, released this report Friday.

The government of China prefers that President Trump not win reelection in November, seeing the incumbent as “unpredictable,” a top U.S. intelligence official said in a statement Friday about China and other countries’ efforts to influence the 2020 election.

“China has been expanding its influence efforts” ahead of the vote in November, pressuring political figures it sees as opposed to its interest and trying to “deflect and counter criticism of China,” said William Evanina, the director of the National Counterintelligence and Security Center, following up on briefings that he has privately given to lawmakers. […]

Russia, which interfered in the 2016 election to help boost Trump’s chances, according to U.S. intelligence officials, now wants to diminish former vice president Joe Biden, the presumptive Democratic nominee, Evanina said.

“We assess that Russia is using a range of measures to primarily denigrate former vice president Biden and what it sees as an anti-Russia ‘establishment,’ ” he said

As stated, this is hardly earth shattering information. But what it unveils is two things: 1. As Robert Mueller said when he testified before Congress, election interference is “going on as we speak,” and 2. The people involved in that effort, such as Rudy Giuliani, are jaded in the extreme and have no trouble selling out their fellow Americans.

Just how many individuals who feel that way in the Republican party are not known, but it certainly would behoove us to pay attention to the pro-Trump people, because pro-Trump equates to pro-Putin and pro end of democracy.

    • Well, “getting word this early” is great, but we need social media (Facebook, especially) to start monitoring “suspicious” accounts to avoid a repeat of 2016 (when signs were there and social media–especially Facebook–said, “Nah, brah, there’s nothing there” after spending zero time checking into the bot accounts).

      • Hell, Joseph, you REALLY expect them to do all that? The current policy for the rest of us of BOLO is both more realistic and effective until further notice. 2016 relied on the element of surprise. Too many eyes are watching this year and the mouths they are attached to are ALL talking.
