The mother of Capitol Hill police officer, Brian Sicknick, who was seriously injured in the Capitol riot and died the next day of a stroke, has requested to meet with each and every Republican senator to discuss their opposition to the January 6 riot commission. Politico:
“Not having a January 6 Commission to look into exactly what occurred is a slap in the faces of all the officers who did their jobs that day,” Gladys Sicknick said in a statement provided to POLITICO. “I suggest that all Congressmen and Senators who are against this Bill visit my son’s grave in Arlington National Cemetery and, while there, think about what their hurtful decisions will do to those officers who will be there for them going forward.”
“Putting politics aside, wouldn’t they want to know the truth of what happened on January 6? If not, they do not deserve to have the jobs they were elected to do,” she added. […]
10 Republicans would need to get on board in order to circumvent a filibuster. So far, only a few GOP lawmakers — including Sens. Mitt Romney of Utah, Susan Collins of Maine and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska — have signaled support for the proposal. Even then, they want to see changes made.
Several Republicans indicated they’d be willing to sit down with Sicknick’s mother, including Collins, Romney and Sen. John Cornyn of Texas, as well as South Carolina Sens. Lindsey Graham and Tim Scott.
Others, such as Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas or Sen. Joni Ernst of Iowa, deferred comment to their offices or said they had not received the meeting request yet.
Anybody who wants to get on board will have to deal with Mitch McConnell, who has made it clear that the Commission’s findings, if approved, would come out ahead of the 2022 election. That’s the main reason he wants to stonewall it.
Michael Fanone, an officer also seriously injured January 6, has asked to meet with Kevin McCarthy and so far has heard crickets.
If I had to bet today, I would bet that this iteration of the GOP will ignore a grieving mother’s request and either not meet with her, or if they do meet with her, gaslight her with how all the criminals are already being arrested and she need not worry. But who knows? Maybe a miracle can occur and 10 honest Republicans can be found and Washington, D.C. won’t turn into a pillar of salt. We can always hope.
If ANY of the Republican Senators refuse to meet with Brian Sicknick’s mother, then they do not deserve to serve in our nation’s Congress. These Republican’s actions so far have been disgusting. To refuse Mrs. Sicknick’s request would be unconscionable.
Good luck with that – they’re pretending it didn’t happen at all.

Anyone who doesn’t call their senators & house members about this latest outrage is part of the insurrection. Period. There is no excuse for them or you.
