And they are speaking out. WOW, are they speaking out. They have things to do that they should have been working on by now, but aren’t. He refuses to bring the House back. He refuses to swear in the new Arizona member. He’s been a dick all around to his caucus and the House overall. What is he afraid of?? The Epstein files? Getting voted out of his position? Getting yelled at? Because it’s certainly gotten to that point. Yelling is the nicest thing they would do. From Raw Story:
Congressional Republicans are fuming over House Speaker Mike Johnson’s insistence that the House remain in recess over the government shutdown fight, complaining that the extended recess is jeopardizing the Senate’s ability to do other “substantive things.” “The issue is that if we’re gonna do substantive things, like legislation, we can’t just do it in the Senate,” said Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), speaking with NOTUS Thursday on her way to the Senate floor as reported by the outlet Friday. “We need both bodies. So we need the place to be open. We need the House to be functioning.”
Ya think? They really can’t get much of anything done because it requires both sets of Congress to be there. DUDE. He needs to be in session. He needs to be working with the House *and* the Senate. But he doesn’t seem to care about health care subsidies or the government being mostly shut down and thousands of people not getting paid. He cares about his ego and his power. He’s flexing his muscles, and all it is doing is making Congress mad. To be a fly on the wall when they reconvene would be a lovely thing. Raised voices are to be expected.
But for some Senate Republicans, Johnson’s insistence on not reconvening the House until the Senate adopts a spending measure is starting to hurt their own agendas. “In addition to this making it a lot more difficult for us to actually end the shutdown, it also means that we’re not doing all of the things the House was supposed to be doing during this month,” said Rep. Kevin Kiley (R-CA), one of the five targets of California’s new congressional map, which lawmakers agreed to implement in response to Texas’ redistricting, speaking with MSNBC this week.
Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC) also shared his complaints over the House’s recess with NOTUS, albeit much more reserved than Murkowski and Kiley. “There are so many bills that we’re all working on. It requires you to be here… Some staff are furloughed. Other staff are working. That sort of cadence is lost when you’re not here, particularly when you’re not here when you were scheduled to be here.”
Okay, when *Republican* members speak out, that shows that Moses Mikey is in trouble, possibly worse than the shutdown. It’s quite a hill to die on. It seems that a compromise could be reached IF everyone were there. That’s one hell of an if. Some of their constituents could very possibly need that healthcare. And rural hospitals. And you get the idea. But no, he won’t budge. To close:
While Johnson has said he wouldn’t reconvene the House due to it being a “waste of time” given the continued opposition from Senate Democrats to adopt a spending bill without health care subsidy extensions, some critics allege the real reason to be Johnson’s fear of an impending vote on releasing the Justice Department’s files on Jeffrey Epstein, who died in 2019 while awaiting sex-trafficking charges and is reported to have had a long personal relationship with President Donald Trump.
Seems we and some members think alike. It’s the fear of the Epstein files, which means he won’t swear in Adelita Grijalva, because she’s a Democrat and is the final yes vote to force a release of the files. And he’s just partly being a dick. He does that very well these days. This is really just sad that our country has come to this in less than a year, since Trump has been in office.
Friends, I know everyone begs you for money. I promise, among all those asking for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest working. We’re a group of old, disabled people, except for one writer in his mid-50s. The rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the chance to keep telling the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula

Maybe I’m the only one who doesn’t know this, but why is referred to as “Moses Mike”?
Because of his self-proclaimed piousness, piousness as opposed to piety.
Mike Johnson is nicknamed “Moses Mikey” because of his strong conservative and evangelical Christian beliefs, which lead some to compare him to the biblical figure Moses, particularly his role in passing the recent Republican-led bill to suspend the debt ceiling. The nickname emerged after his actions to pass the bill, which some on the right criticized for being too lenient on the debt ceiling. The “Moses” part of the nickname is a nod to his perceived leadership and to the influence of his faith on his public actions, while “Mikey” is a shortened version of his first name, Mike. from AI Generated Text.
i think he’s trying to run out the clock while doj redacts trump and co. from the epstein material. frankly, forcing the release would solve a lot of his problems.
