Admittedly, Michael Moore has been disturbingly correct in predicting Trump’s rise and the danger that he still poses. It is probably best to just go along with the assumption that Trump is “clever” at making you think he’s stupid, as Moore assures us. But, to the extent that Trump is not stupid, he lacks even a basic education. But Moore says that is irrelevant because Trump does one thing very well, something Hitler did well, too.
From Mediaite:
“We’ve lost as a society, as a democracy,” Moore said of the potential that Trump is not indicted.
NO argument there. We cannot call ourselves a democracy and a country of laws if Trump is too “big” to arrest. But Moore says that Trump has a Hitler-like quality that makes him even more dangerous unless arrested:
“The key was to create chaos. Chaos from election night onward,” he said.
This “chaos theory,” as Moore put it, relates right back to Adolf Hitler, the Nazis, and late filmmaker Billy Wilder.
And then the real lesson:
Back in January of 1933 … Billy Wilder, the great film director, a Jewish man who lived in Berlin got on a train to Paris the day after Hitler was inaugurated. Hitler was democratically elected. And he did that and his family is going, ‘why are you leaving? Hitler’s an idiot. Nothing’s going to happen. This is Germany. Yes, we’re Jews, but we’re Jews in Germany. The editor of the morning Berlin paper is Jewish, the conductor of the Berlin Philharmonic is Jewish. We’re okay.’ And he’s like, ‘no,we’re not okay.’ [Wilder] knew in ’33. There was no Holocaust then. There was nothing. But he knew immediately. Hitler and the Nazies started creating chaos.
That is certainly self-evident.
Still, I wonder. I see Trump being a sociopathic narcissist, but sometimes his propaganda seems a little “too good.” There have been psychologists studying propaganda in Eastern Europe since, well, at least as far back as Hitler. There has always been a question in my mind whether he was being coached, whether there were late-night phone calls on his cell, not through the White House switchboard.
Putin is another guy who seems to know how to create chaos.

I have wondered about the tendency to accuse the other side of doing what they themselves are doing. I saw that from Trump and I see Putin doing the same thing. So, who learned it from whom?
It’s called mirror accusations. You accuse the other side of things they haven’t done and will not do, but you have done or plan to do. It’s a standard fascist ploy. The wrong time to realize the house is on fire is when you’re trapped in it. Better to act when you smell smoke and do whatever is necessary to put it out. Michael is a Midwestern genius and we SHOULD listen to him. Funny how we hold Paul Revere in high esteem but ignore our own folks warning us fascists are out to destroy our country.

Nowadays I look at Michael Moore the same way I look at Trump: an aging grifter who got lucky once, leading to a vast overinflation of his brand. Adding in moral imperatives to what is an easy political calculation–the system must crush the opposition that tried to wreck it in a way that shows it works–makes me respect him even less. At a time when Ukraine is proving that democracy has more of a fighting chance than every defeatist I’ve had the displeasure of listening to could ever believe, he deserves the same amount of media oxygen as, say, Alex Jones. Hell with him.
You seem to be prejudiced against anyone not your age or younger. Since you weren’t around in 1968 when king was killed and black folks were fighting off police dogs, we young folks were being drafted and sent to Vietnam to our death, we had a criminal president who decided to criminalize us by putting cannabis in schedule 1, the huge optimism was crushed when Bobby Kennedy was murdered right after winning the California primary, and so on…your generation is in no position to throw stones. The hubris of youth that incorrectly assumes the previous generation is to blame for everything. It was never true and won’t be years from now when they blame you! We did end the war, get Nixon kicked out and got black folks rights passed in 64 & 65. By the way why didn’t the young folks show up to stop Trump in 2016? The view must be great in the glass house.
You wanna know why I give less than a damn about any of the above? Because none of it changes the fact that both our generations failed the ones coming up…you know, the ones who just pulled our collective ass out of the fire while you were bitching about how you wish things were different? You focus on fault, I’m fixed on responsibility. And very little of Moore’s attempt to ingratiate himself into relevance strikes me as responsible.
I will be spending at least a couple of decades after you’re dead and gone answering for all this. Be doing my best to atone for it with whatever work I can do to make it better. So if I seem bitter, it’s because I’ll be cleaning up YOUR mess on top of my own in the process. And for all your big, righteous talk, it somehow never seems to translate into action that might improve this world before you leave it. Jacob Marley walked that particular path in fiction…recall that it didn’t end well for him.
That proves my point. Pontificating on what I’ve done or not done when You have no fucking idea what battles I’ve waged and what the system has done or taken from me, or how ive improved the world. Arrogance under any banner stinks. OH, and you could be dead by the time I type this since You have no goddamn assurance your ass will be here tomorrow. Must be nice to have a note from God in your pocket with a guaranteed tomorrow. Michael has exposed a lot of wrong in his work. When’s your ‘lucky’ contribution coming out to expose any wrong doing in our culture? Every goddamn generation ‘fails’ the other except for US parents who raise YOU. You have children or are you just living for yourself? I know the answer.
Trump is just the right age to be Hitler reincarnated, FWIW.
