If Michael Cohen got any more blatant in telegraphing his intent to flip on Donald Trump, he would have to do barrel rolls over the White House, while simultaneously skywriting, “Hey, Donald guess what I’m gonna do?”

CNN announced Tuesday that Cohen “sees in himself a strong parallel to John Dean.” Dean was the former White House counsel under Nixon who became the star witness against him during Watergate. Two sources close to Cohen were quoted as saying that, “Dean eventually stood up and told the truth not for his career or for fear of going to jail but because it was the right thing to do.”

One thing is for certain: Cohen doesn’t like the campaign against his credibility which is being waged by both Donald Trump on the one hand and Michael Avenatti on the other.  People close to Cohen said It didn’t go well when Rudy Giuliani spoke of Trump liking Cohen, past tense, and Trump pointing out that Cohen had his own personal business, thereby minimizing who and what he may have been to Trump in the past. Vanity Fair:

These people also believe that some of Trump’s family members, including Don Jr. and Jared Kushner, have also discussed ways to distance themselves from him. Cohen, for his part, seems game to fight back. “For a year and a half, I’ve been silent,” Cohen told friends around the time he called Davis. “What has silence gotten me? It’s ruined my business. It’s ruined my wife’s life. It’s ruined my children’s lives. I’ve been a punching bag for everybody. Why am I going to continue to be silent?”

Parallels to Watergate bring the pundits running. Here they are.
