Attorney General Merrick Garland this morning appointed former U.S. Attorney for the District of Maryland as Special Counsel to conduct the investigation of classified documents found at a Biden sponsored think tank in Washington D.C. and his home in Delaware.
Mr. Hur was a Donald Trump appointee and also served as Principal Associate Deputy Attorney General under acting Attorney General Rod Rosenstein during the Trump Administation.
Hur has experience in National Security and Cyber crime cases.
“On the national security front, under Mr. Hur’s leadership, the Office protected Marylanders from significant terrorist threats, both international and domestic. The Office successfully prosecuted Christopher Hasson, a former Coast Guard officer who amassed an arsenal of weapons in preparation for violence inspired by extremist, white-supremacist views. The Office also charged Rondell Henry with attempting to provide material support to the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS), in connection with his plans to drive a motor vehicle into crowds and inflict mass civilian casualties at National Harbor. Prosecutors in the Office also charged members of The Base, a racially motivated violent extremist group, who attended military-style training camps and planned to engage in subversive and criminal activity. Importantly, these terrorist plots were disrupted, and the individuals arrested, before any inflicting any harm or loss of life on our communities.
The Office also helped safeguard sensitive, classified information through the successful prosecution of two of the most significant breach cases in history: Harold Martin, a former National Security Agency (“NSA”) contractor who stole and retained classified material over two decades and stored it in his home and car, and Nghia Hoang Pho, a former NSA employee who removed and kept at his home massive troves of highly classified national defense information.“

… Two sets of classified documents from the Obama-Biden Administration have so far been found in Biden’s private possession, with the first batch found in an office at the Penn Biden Center in Washington and subsequent documents found at Biden’s home in Delaware.
Those materials were not stored in locations authorized to secure classified documents, Garland said Thursday.
Garland had previously asked U.S. Attorney John Lausch, a Trump appointee, to review the matter, and said Lausch had recommended to him that a special counsel be appointed.
Bloomberg reported the AG was considering appointing an independent investigator ahead of Thursday’s announcement.”
Despite the somewhat troubling association with Trump and Rosenstein, I have no reason to believe that Hur will do less than an exemplary job at getting to the bottom of this case, no matter where it leads.

I’d have preferred, in the interest of time for Garland to have gone ahead and elevated the guy already working on this to the Special Counsel position. Hurr is going to have to go over every single fucking document and (or his team) re-interview every single person that’s already been talked to. It’s going to slow down the resolution of this.
He apparently appointed Hur long before this hit the media.
Wow. Look at that. President Biden finds out there are docs needing to be attended to and he, gasp, gets them to the people they belong to. Now Mr. Hurr is assigned to look into the matter fucking immediately. WTF?
