Look who just scuttled out of hiding to save face, a few hours before the January 6 Hearing goes on the air and continues its mission of blowing the lid off the Capitol riot and showing what a loser her husband is. I have been vacillating for years on who should get the Phony Sanctimonious Bullshit Artist award in the Trump administration. Should it go to Mike Pence or Melania Trump? I think we have a winner. I think Melania has taken the field, hands down.

She was doing a photo op with a rug at that point and said, “No.” Now, it appears that she feels she needs to clean up her act. “On January 6, 2021, I was fulfilling one of my duties as First Lady of the United States of America, and accordingly, I was unaware of what was simultaneously transpiring at the U.S. Capitol Building,” Trump told Fox News Digital.
Of course you were, Mel. The riot was happening just up the street and everybody else in the White House could hear the screaming and the chants of “Hang Mike Pence!” plus every TV in the White House was tuned to the news channels, but you, and you alone were working. Uh huh.
“As with all First Ladies who preceded me, it was my obligation to record the contents of the White House’s historic rooms, including taking archival photographs of all the renovations. Several months in advance, I organized a qualified team of photographers, archivists, and designers to work with me in the White House to ensure perfect execution,” she continued. “As required, we scheduled January 6, 2021, to complete the work on behalf of our Nation.”
The former first lady added that “this is a very significant undertaking and requires great care, attention to detail, and concentration—both in the planning and execution.”
Hey, man, she was doing a photo op with a rug that day. You think it’s so easy, you try it, okay? The fuck, nobody ever gives Melania credit. “Ms. Grisham was not in the White House on January 6, and her behavior in her role as Chief of Staff ultimately amounts to dereliction of duty,” Trump said, noting that, “traditionally, the First Lady’s Chief of Staff provides detailed briefings surrounding our Nation’s important issues.”
“In fact, Ms. Grisham failed to provide insight and information into the events surrounding January 6 as she had abandoned her post in Washington, D.C.,” she continued. “Shamefully, this behavior has only partially become public knowledge; yet was consistent for Ms. Grisham.”
She added: “It is evident that Grisham’s recent betrayals are a last-ditch attempt to resuscitate her ruined career and reputation.” […]
But Trump told Fox News Thursday: “I always condemn violence.”
“Had I been fully informed of all the details, naturally, I would have immediately denounced the violence that occurred at the Capitol Building,” Trump said. “And while Ms. Grisham’s behavior is disappointing, it is not surprising or an isolated incident.”
I for one am relieved to know the truth. Poor Melania was kept in the dark. Poor Melania was the victim of bad staffers. Poor Melania was working her fingers to the bone, she and the rug, because photo ops don’t take themselves. You would know this if you were a goddess, soaring above it all.
All I can say, is that Melania showing up on Fox News the afternoon before the big night to do damage control, tells me all that I need to know. Anybody got a countdown clock? Start it rolling.
I seem to recall that Melania was too busy with a home-decor photoshoot to even bother with noticing what was going on, WHEN SHE WAS TOLD ABOUT IT.

My understanding of the First Lady’s role is that she has NO OFFICIAL DUTIES. The “job” is merely an honorific. There’s no pay for being “First Lady” and, there’s no legal (much less “constitutional”) description of the job as it relates to the government. If Trump had decided to cast off Melania two days after the inauguration, most likely the role of the “First Lady” would’ve devolved to Ivanka (in previous presidencies when the President was not married at the time, the role of “hostess”–which is the primary function of a traditional wife, even a First Lady–would be handled by a female relative).
