I must say, there are put downs and there are put downs and Trump in a wig is a double ouch. Make that a quadruple ouch. If the coiffure fits, wear it. Marsha Blackburn is a total MAGA sycophant. I’m surprised that she’s not trying to get on the GOP ticket as VP, as vociferously pro-Trump as she is. With any luck Blackburn may go the way of Trump in November, which is out of politics and our daily discourse.

It’s always so satisfying when one of these clowns is in the rear view mirror. Madison Cawthorn used to take up a lot of oxygen but he’s long gone now. His was a candle that burned both short and dull. For a one term congressman he managed to pack his calendar full of scandal, second only to George Santos. Now, he’s gone, Santos is gone, and even Ron DeSantis is gone. Wouldn’t it be great to color Marsha Blackburn gone?

MAGA is a vocal minority. It may even possibly be a fad. Certainly the Donald Trump level of MAGA is not going to endure forever. He’s the charismatic cult leader and when he’s not at the head of the cult anymore, a lot of the cult will fall away of its own weight.

There’s little question in anyone’s mind but that the MAGA crazies are here to stay, the reason being that they represent the fringe elements of the Republican party that have always been there. They’re simply united in one coalition called MAGA. And it’s fully expected that people like Ron DeSantis will be attempting to cultivate MAGA for quite some time to come. Not only DeSantis, but Josh Hawley, the lot of them. You know the names.

So MAGA is here to stay but MAGA sans Trump will be an interesting thing to observe. And then what about the conservatives or “sane” Republicans? As we’ve said here many times and will continue to say, it looks like today’s GOP has hit the end of the road, much as the Whigs hit their end in the mid 1800’s. The Whigs collapsed and the Republican party arose. Now it looks like it’s time for the Republican party to collapse and for something else to arise in its place.

You see the signs of that all around you. Different conservative conventions headed by people from The Bulwark and other like-minded center-right publications happen with regularity.

And there is need for two functioning political parties. Democracy is based on that very thing. Since 2015 we’ve seen one functioning political party and one crippled and toxic party, helmed by a crippled and toxic personality, namely Donald Trump. The GOP in this form cannot endure. Nobody believes this more than Republicans, they’re just not talking about it openly, we are. But they are plenty worried.

And with with good cause. They lost in 2018, 2020, 2022 (which was supposed to be the big comeback and wasn’t) and now their standard bearer is under indictment in four jurisdictions and just lost a hefty defamation damages case, to the woman he was adjudicated as raping. None of this bodes well for the future of the party.

And the last person to care is Trump. He’s out for number one. As Lindsey Graham so aptly observed and opined in 2015, “If we nominate Trump we will be destroyed and we will deserve it.” We are seeing that prophecy come to pass. It was believable then but like many dark prophecies from mythology, there was no escaping it. It was fate. But what is the GOP’s post Trump fate? Ask The Shadow, maybe he knows. It’s a cinch the Republicans don’t.

  1. I haven’t lived in TN since 1983, but I’ve watched (in horror) what it’s become and believe she was/is a major contributor. As soon as Democrats decide on their candidate, I’ll be donating!

  2. Geez…it appears Taylor doesn’t need that big tight end from Kansas City to defend her! She’s a blond ninja! The “jokers to the left of me, clowns to the right”…are “stuck in the middle with” her!!! I don’t listen to her music but I may have to start.

    • START WITH LONG LIVE…. THAT IS A SONG!
LONG LIVE .. lyrics and video

      I said remember this moment
In the back of my mind
The time we stood with our shaking hands
The crowds in stands went wild
We were the kings and the queens
And they read off our names
The night you danced like you knew our lives
      Would never be the same
You held your head like a hero
      On a history book page
It was the end of a decade
But the start of an age
Long live the walls we crashed through
How the kingdom lights shined just for me and you
I was screaming, “Long live all the magic we made”
And bring on all the pretenders
One day we will be remembered
      I said remember this feeling
      I passed the pictures around
Of all the years that we stood there on the sidelines
      Wishing for right now
We are the kings and the queens
You traded your baseball cap for a crown
When they gave us our trophies
And we held them up for our town
      And the cynics were outraged
      Screaming, “This is absurd”
‘Cause for a moment, a band of thieves
In ripped up jeans got to rule the world
Long live the walls we crashed through
How the kingdom lights shined just for me and you
I was screaming, “Long live all the magic we made”
And bring on all the pretenders, I’m not afraid
Long live all the mountains we moved
I had the time of my life fighting dragons with you
I was screaming, “Long live that look on your face”
And bring on all the pretenders
One day we will be remembered
      Hold on to spinning around
      Confetti falls to the ground
May these memories break our fall
      Will you take a moment?
      Promise me this
That you’ll stand by me forever
But if, God forbid, fate should step in
And force us into a goodbye
      If you have children someday
When they point to the pictures
      Please tell them my name
Tell them how the crowds went wild
Tell them how I hope they shine
Long live the walls we crashed through
I had the time of my life with you
Long, long live the walls we crashed through
How the kingdom lights shined just for me and you
And I was screaming, “Long live all the magic we made”
And bring on all the pretenders, I’m not afraid
Singing long live all the mountains we moved
I had the time of my life fighting dragons with you
And long, long live the look on your face
And bring on all the pretenders
One day, we will be remembered
