Writers seem to be protected, so far, from Trump’s media crackdown. I hope it stays that way for a while because we can speak out and show people the hard truths they’ve been avoiding. As Trump is dragging our democracy down into hell, it’s getting pretty warm down here. There is, however, Trump suing the New York Times, and it got thrown out of court. I’m not so sure about Bezo’s paper. That’s unfortunate. Maybe he wants a slice of that authoritarian pie. But I digress. And speaking of, from The New York Times via AlterNet:
After the news broke that a suspect had been arrested in connection with the murder of Turning Point USA’s Charlie Kirk, there was a lot of speculation over possible motivations. In a New York Times opinion column [EDIT: subscription required] published on September 19, journalist Lydia Polgreen argues that MAGA responses to Kirk’s murder speak volumes about their mentality. Many MAGA Republicans, Polgreen laments, are “obsessed” with using Kirk’s murder to demonize transgender Americans.
Oh, are they ever. Transgender people scare them (see: Nancy Mace’s insanity about bathrooms). It’s as if they are a whole new frightening species when they are people just like us. They happen to be comfortable with their new identity and were very unhappy with their old identity. If the people *really* get scared, they add in antifa, which is a ghost organization that doesn’t even exist. But, back to our columnist.
“This fixation on finding a transgender connection to Kirk’s horrific murder is as awful as it is dangerous,” Polgreen warns. “But it does reveal two psychological truths about Trumpism. First, for all of MAGA’s reverence for masculine self-determination, one of its central tenets is the blamelessness of its adherents. Whatever is going wrong in this country, it is not their fault. If you can’t find a job or a house, it is because immigrants took them all and filled your community with crime to boot.”
Yeah, MAGA is good at ignoring the truth, since they love their god Trump and he can do no wrong. It’s George Soros doing something. It’s whoever they can find to blame, such as transgender people. They don’t want to look at themselves and admit what they know deep down is the truth: they are the problem, and others aren’t. Immigrants are being persecuted and thrown out of the country. That’s why farmers are losing some of their crops, because they don’t have enough help anymore. And they wonder why prices are shooting sky high. It’s not just tariffs causing it. It’s Trump’s vendetta against “others”.
Polgreen continues, “If your business is failing, it is because foreign countries are ripping off America by selling us their goods and not buying enough of ours…. The insistence that something President Trump and his supporters call ‘transgender ideology’ was behind the killing lays bare another core belief of theirs: They are obsessed with contamination and contagion, seeing it as the site of despicable difference. Again and again they deploy metaphors of disease and disfigurement.“
*They* are the disease that no one will ever admit. *They* are the ones who are afraid and don’t see it. *They* are the ones that believe in their god Trump, who is the cause of the disease. *We* can see Trump for what he is, a petty little man obsessed with himself and power. *We* will fight back in any way we can. We need to shut this down and work on it now. If we don’t do it, no one will. WHAM.
Friends, I know everybody begs you for money. I promise you that of all of the outlets bugging you for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest working. We’re a bunch of old, disabled people, except one writer in his mid-50s. But the rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. In WW2 we didn’t stop the nazis with good arguments and showing them the atrocities they should feel ashamed of committing. OK America…learn some goddamn history and REALIZE what and who you’re dealing with. They locked 500 women, children, and elderly in a church in a French village suspected of supporting the resistance. They BURNED THEM ALIVE! We now have a nazi president running toward dictatorship as fast as he can. I don’t want a civil war…but note to maga…you force me into one and go ask the Germans what it cost them.
