Donald Trump’s favorite poem, his only poem, actually, is The Snake. “Take me in, oh tender woman, take me in for goodness sake, said the snake.” And then it ends with the snake biting the woman and telling her, “You knew what I was when you took me in.” Mike Pence perhaps needs to be reminded of that, because Trump does not feel bad for the position that he put Pence in, which was literally the mob 100 feet behind him as he was rushed from the Senate chamber, any more than the snake felt bad about the position he put the woman in by biting her. They both knew what the other one was. If Pence didn’t know who or what Trump was when he joined him on the GOP ticket, then Pence deserves what he got, because the rest of us certainly saw it.

Here is audio from an interview Trump did recently and it’s no surprise. Not unless you’re Pence and living in denial.

You notice here that the human reality of the situation, the president putting his vice president in physical danger, for the first time in history, is glanced over quickly and then passed by as Trump goes on to his Big Lie.

It’s my considered opinion that Trump would not have cared if Pence was injured or worse. He would have blamed Pence, the Secret Service, anybody but the incited MAGA rioters or himself. Pence finally woke up to that fact later, because he was reportedly livid, at least according to his old friend Jim Inhofe, the senator from Oklahoma that he had been friends with for many years. Inhofe said he had never seen Pence so angry.

But again, the truth of the matter for Pence and the entire GOP is, you knew what Trump was when you took him in. We all knew what Trump was, the GOP just decided to pretend that something else was happening and that pretense goes on to this day.

  1. You could see the anger in Pence’s demeanor, after the attack as he presided over the senate. Somehow, he convinced himself otherwise, afterwards. All I can do is shake my head.

  2. All those “angry people”? They’re all followers of the former guy who believe his lies.
A president who was willing to have his VP murdered for political power.

  3. The willful ignorance and downright “stoopidity” of all those adoring people at those rallies who love to hear Trump do his schtick with this poem is displayed for all the world to see. There’s a reason Trump learned this poem, no doubt decades ago as he “fucked em and forget em” through adolescence right through adulthood. One of things that causes bitterness in guys like me during our lives is seeing good ladies we know get used and thrown on the trash heap by such guys – knowing their reputation but deceiving themselves into thinking with them it would be different. That’s a whole different topic I won’t expound on, but when rich guy Trump who would be a sleazy, way the hell off the main drag used car salesman if he hadn’t been born to a rich daddy who kept bailing him out embraced playing the role of populist as a political candidate he was probably surprised at how well this poem went down at his rallies.

I honestly think at first he couldn’t believe it. Then, being the complete narcissist he is with a huge streak of viciousness added he began to revel in the pleasure he drew from a crowd for whom he is utterly contemptuous because THEY didn’t (and still don’t) get that he’s been taunting them the whole fucking time because HE IS THE SNAKE!

They don’t get it and/or refuse to see the reality. It’s the equivalent of standing there and saying “You are all a bunch of dumb assed suckers and I wouldn’t let you into my office or my clubs because you are trash and losers.” Can you imagine anything more pleasurable to someone so narcissistic?

The best part (for Trump) is human nature is such that almost everyone doesn’t like admitting we’ve made a significant mistake. And we hate realizing we’ve been suckered. There isn’t a person who reads these words who hasn’t themselves, or tried to help someone they care about who has gone to extremes rationalizing something to avoid having to admit (if only to themselves) that they fell for a con/scam, line of bullshit. Being a career con man Trump knows this better than most.

Those who are frightened about his takeover of the GOP and so much of right wing punditry and news have good reason to be so. History has run this “movie” before and it never ends well. I saw Star Trek – Into Darkness the other night and I’m reminded of the scene near the end when the young and old Spock talk about Khan. The end of the (brief) conversation was a question from young Spock “Did you defeat him?” followed by a reply from the old one who sighed and displayed un-Vulcan like emotion when he said “Yes. At great cost.”

  4. Bottom line:
Jan 6 was an attempted coup, incited by and planned by Traitor Tot and his followers! I and many others are getting tired of the Jan 6 insurrectionists getting ludicrously light slap on the wrist sentences, when they should be getting sentenced to double digit (in years) prison sentences. And the ones who planned and incited the attempted coup have yet to be indicted!
