[A petard was a 16th–17th century small, conical metal bomb filled with gunpowder, used by sappers to breach doors, gates, and walls. It was attached directly to targets and exploded via a slow-burning fuse, often killing the user if detonated too early. The phrase “hoist by your own petard” means being caught in your own trap. Now you know.]

Yes, indeed, turnabout is fair play. His favorite insult is coming back, and this time it’s against him. We all know it’s going to piss him off, and he deserves every moment of it. We have suffered endless rants when Trump gets his fee-fees hurt. For a grown man, he’s really, really childish, likely accentuated by the cognitive decline. Much obliged to The New Republic via and to Raw Story:

President Donald Trump has used the word “loser” to describe plenty of his enemies, but now that insult might be coming back to haunt him, an analyst said on Wednesday. The New Republic‘s Matt Ford discussed how Trump’s Iran war has suspended trade through the Strait of Hormuz, effectively “the geopolitical equivalent of stabbing the global economy’s femoral artery.” Iran has taken control of the channel, and although Trump has argued that the United States has won the conflict, the world does not see it as he does. “This is what happens when losers are elected to lead the world’s only superpower,” Ford wrote.

That is succinct, noteworthy, and apt when it comes to discussing Trump. If you look at all his closed businesses, failed grifts, and bankruptcies, he’s a lot more of a loser than one might think at first glance. Does anyone remember Trump Steaks or Trump Perfumes anymore? Only in passing. The list of his losses is pretty impressive and pretty sad. Impressive for how many, sad that he keeps trying. The people who get suckered into buying his “whatevers” and then losing their money are, while one wonders how they could have fallen for it, depressing.

Fascism and loserdom go hand in hand because fascism is predicated on the notion that the fascist has been unjustly cheated and robbed, and that only through force can they restore and revitalize themselves,” Ford wrote. “Fascists idolize losers because no fascist society has ever flourished and because they see themselves reflected in other people’s failures. It is fitting that Trump and his allies have lavished praise and public statuary upon Robert E. Lee, a Virginia-born colonel who is best known for leading a failed rebellion against the United States on behalf of a slaver aristocracy in the South.”

Fascism doesn’t work, but Trump is still trying for it, dictator dreams and all. He never, *ever* learns from the past. He *lost* the war with Iran, no matter how much he and Hegseth pontificate about a great and glorious victory. They are the only two who believe it. Others in his ‘cabinet’ could very well be having second thoughts about this illegal war. We’re waiting to see if Trump starts throwing bombs again after the 2-week ceasefire ends. If he goes back to the threats of hitting infrastructure or ending Iran’s civilization again, we are in big, big, BIG trouble.

Trump has surrounded himself with people, including Vice President JD Vance and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, who have openly expressed a similar sentiment — “whose worldview is driven by personal grievances against the world.” “The goal of Trumpism, it could be said, is to create losers of us all,” Ford added. “The political and economic project’s goal is not to materially improve its adherents’ lives. Instead, it is to create a sense of social order for some people that offers an aesthetic sense of improvement, even as one’s standard of living declines in real terms.”

Instead of my usual closing, allow me to quote something a friend from overseas sent me:

Trump: “She doesn’t care if Iran acquires nuclear weapons and blows up Italy in two minutes.”

PM Meloni (Italy) “As far as I know, nine nations possess nuclear weapons, and only one has ever used them. No one throws around nuclear threats like Washington.”

Ahahaha! See you soon!

Friends, I know everyone begs you for money. I promise that among all those asking for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest-working. We’re a group of elderly, disabled people, except for one writer in his mid-50s. The rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the chance to keep telling the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula

  1. A petard in Shakespeare’s time also meant a fart. You can still see that in the French word for fart, peter. The phrase is from Hamlet. Shakespeare’s plays are filled with double entendres, and it seems audiences loved them. So, hoist by his own fart. Far more fitting.

  2. Wow. The irony of Italy’s Meloni attacking Drumpf’s fascist tendencies while trying to scare people with an alleged Iranian nuclear threat. Meloni’s party (The Brothers of Italy–“I Fratelli d’Italia”) is the descendant of the fascist Italian Social Movement (which was formed after WW2 by SUPPORTERS of Benito Mussolini–apparently the ones that managed to hide their support enough to avoid Mussolini’s fate). Meloni claims her party is “just” right-wing/conservative but that’s just a smoke screen.

    • Oh, I’m aware of her leanings, although she and Trump have had a pretty major falling out. I thought the quote was hilarious because of that relationship. And ironic.

  3. I am very concerned that amid all the “Rump Loses” stuff, that the reality is he may well be winning at the bigger game he is playing for Putin.

Do you not think destroying the economies of the entire Western World is not a goal for these goobers?

At that they seem to be quietly winning.

    • Damn, I hadn’t considered that. I believe you are correct. They are most certainly winning at that part. I wonder if Trump will ever realized he’s been played, especially with Putin helping Iran.

      Winning, oh yes.

      • Susan, consider that tRump hasn’t “been played” at all, but rather that he is playing Putin’s own playbook. I believe that’s the real story here that everybody’s missing.

Folks are so hung up on TDS, that they’re missing the BIG PICTURE.

Gee, look how stupid T’s Blockade of Iran’s Blockade is
        compared to
Trump is letting both Iran AND Russia MAKE MONEY off this entire debacle!!!

That money thing keeps getting buried under all the “look, another squirrel!” BS.

        • I am so glad you responded to my reply. That’s definitely something more people aren’t considering. It may be a moot point *for now*, but definitely worth digging in to!

Also, Trump using Putin’s playbook. Oooofffffffff. Makes sense!
