The backlash is coming down on her, but good. *Republicans* are upset. Republicans want answers. And we say, “We’ve been warning you about this for months”. Kristi has screwed up in more ways than one. The backfires moved *uphill*. It’s all on her. With gratefulness to Politico, via, and including, AlterNet:
During President Donald Trump’s second term, the Republican Party has typically been a willing accomplice to the administration. The GOP has stood by his side during his many controversial power moves, and they have ceded constitutional power as he bypassed the legislative branch to govern by executive orders while defying federal judges. But Politico reports that Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem is showing chinks in her armor as constituents rail against GOP lawmakers over her repeated failures.
Krispi failing? Nahhhh, you must be thinking of someone else. Her hair extensions, fancy watch, and a theory that she had breast implants, show someone who is confident in her abilities and misdirects *cough* Oh hell yes, she is failing. Look at ICE and CBP. Look at what’s left of FEMA. Look at her having to personally sign a document if the amount needed is greater than a dollar. Well, actually more than that, if not by much. Look at her screwups for that horrible Texas flood. We lost a lot of good people and children in that one. The list goes on, but these are some of the ‘high points.’
“… Noem is trying to navigate the ongoing furor over ICE unleashed after immigration officers shot and killed two U.S. citizens in Minneapolis. But the embattled Noem faces a litany of other dysfunctions in her department that also imperil her tenure,” reported Politico. “… [H]er handling of other things under her agency’s sprawling remit – from disaster relief to the gutting of the nation’s cybersecurity agency – is increasingly alienating Republicans at a time when she needs them most.”
“You’ve got to get adults in the room,” Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) said in an interview. “Get people in there who actually have the kind of experience you need to run large, complex organizations. And there’s a lot, by the way, in this Cabinet that do that. It’s just not her.” //// “A lot of people question her ability to lead this agency, particularly after what has happened,” Rep. Nicole Malliotakis (R-N.Y.) recently told CNN. “I think that all options need to be on the table to find the best person, if there’s somebody better.”
Oh, mercy, almost anyone would be better! She’s as bad as ICE/CPB, drunk on power and thinking she’s a gawd. Well, she isn’t, and she can’t do the actual work. She’s there for photo shoots and false promises. People hate her for both what she’s done and what she *hasn’t* done. The debacle of the Texas flood proves it. FEMA could barely do anything until Gnome signed the damn check. She’s trying to eliminate FEMA. That’s a bad idea, woman.
“Some of the most public critiques outside of ICE operations have related to Noem’s leadership of the Federal Emergency Management Agency,” reported Politico. //// Tillis and others are particularly angry at Noem’s commandment that she personally approve any spending over $100,000 from DHS’s accounts. “The data clearly shows that something is seriously wrong here,” Tillis said, referencing a chart indicating the federal government’s flimsy responses to Hurricanes Helene, Matthew, and Florence.
Politico reports tensions are also boiling over regarding the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA). “Morale is low, people are looking for glimmers of hope, they are trying to find something positive, because it does feel like every time you move forward, you get kicked in the stomach,” said one former CISA official speaking anonymously with Politico about the politicized agency.
Republicans, according to Politico, are also attacking Noem over insufficient transparency with Congress. //// Even now, Politico reports both Republican and Democratic lawmakers are planning to place conditions on how DHS moves money between its accounts, which includes suspending DHS power transfers without transparency.
It’s about damn time they did something with FEMA and DHS. Gnome is in the news almost every day. That’s not something to be proud of, because it’s all about her screwups, not any good work. It’s great to write about her, but after 3 pieces, it gets old. That includes ICE and CBP, natch. I can’t remember a single piece of good news from either her ginormous organization or herself. It’s definitely not something to put on a resume.
If she gets fired, what the hell will come next? Or maybe it should be ‘who’ the hell comes in next. But unless we can get Trump to fire her, or worse, not until he steps down from the presidency, the best we can do is watch, wait, record, and mock her with disgust and mock her mercilessly until she leaves. I’ll go for anything that gets her out. And if it does, we fervently hope that whoever comes next is an improvement. Krispi can take her hair, her watch, and her physical adjustments, and fade away. Please. (Wow, this got long. Thank you for reading through to the end.) See you soon!
Friends, I know everyone begs you for money. I promise that among all those asking for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest-working. We’re a group of old, disabled people, except for one writer in his mid-50s. The rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the chance to keep telling the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula

“Get people in there who actually have the kind of experience you need to run large, complex organizations.”
Noem was governor of South Dakota from 2019 to 2015. I would think that would afford her the kind of experience needed. Instead, she just latched onto what Trump was offering, the prestige, the staff to do her bidding, the ability to bully people, to be an all-out badass. This is someone who shot her own dog.
the problem with all these complaints (a bit late from republicans) is that naoem is doing everything trump wants. deportations are the only thing she’s meant to be cpmpetent at. she was supposed to dismantle frma and the rest of it. trump will dump her if he think she’s making him look bad but her replacement will be instructed to do the same things. same crap, different face. and republicans are too damn stupid to understand that nothing will actually change and their constituents will still be pissed.
