Yes, you read that right. Wow, y’all. Just … WOW. First of all, I have *no* idea how my husband got me out of bed this morning, and then got me to drink a Monster Zero while I was trying to go face first into my keyboard (seriously!). But he did, and I did, and I was able to watch the whole second (broadcast) day of King Charles and Queen Camilla’s visit. Sure, this isn’t exactly politics, but since it’s Canada, whom the Cheeto Prophet has been salivating over for months, I figured it was applicable.

Here’s the important part – the speech. Holy h*ll, there were some DEFINITE jabs at tRump. I was just about dying laughing while trying to hold my phone still so I could take pictures. And there were definitely parts about making new alliances for trade and military cooperation. I would say there were some pretty strong hints aimed towards the EU and NATO countries not in the EU. They’re definitely looking at trying to make new pacts with other countries, and I think that was another shot at Agent Orange, in that they are going to be pulling away from the US. Serves us right, y’know. Canada is not for sale. Ever.

I wish I could remember more of the speech, but it was approximately 26 minutes long, and I couldn’t take notes and take pictures at the same time. I’m sure the text will show up online in the near future, as well as a recording. And something else about the speech? I was *NEVER* bored. I found it fascinating. The parts that were added from King Charles himself fit in with the tenor of the rest of the speech so *very* well. You could barely tell there was a change from when he changed from “his part” to the rest of the speech. I only knew about it because the announcers said something. That speaks volumes, to use an overused phrasing. I was incredibly impressed, and I didn’t expect to be.

I’ve never particularly cared about Charles, and it had nothing to do with the Diana debacle. And then I really didn’t care about Camilla when she entered the picture. I was “oh, whatever” when I came across news articles about them. I started being impressed with him when they announced he had cancer. He was upfront yet reserved, but really shared updates with “the people” to say and show how he was doing, and then he started going back to work part-time as soon as he could. Camilla was there and solidly supporting him through all of it without making a fuss. It was pretty damn obvious how much she cared for Charles and she was right there with him through thick and thin.

I started rethinking my prejudices after that. Then came today. Oh, my goodness gracious. Go back to the first sentence I wrote. Wow. Today *really* hit home with me. His people kept having to move him along because he wanted to take time with the spectators, shaking hands and saying a few words. And yes, Camilla was right there, too.

You know he had to know what was in the speech in advance, so his people could add his part to it. He didn’t smirk (I would have) during the jabs at tRump. He was very measured, calm, and yes, kingly. I never expected that. NEVER. This whole day with him, and partly Camilla, was an eye-opener. I am SO glad I watched. Yes, I missed writing time, but it was worth it. I hope I’ve shown you a little bit of why. Thanks for sticking with me!

Friends, we’re in a dark passage here. We started losing traffic last November, when the entire country got fed up with politics. Added to that have been my health problems over the past two months. We’re falling behind financially. If you can help in any way, it would be appreciated. I’m doing my best to get back in the saddle again. Thank you. Ursula

  1. King Charles is a renaissance man & I’ve followed/loved him since my teens, when he was Prince Charles. I grew up on an organic farm & he was way ahead of his time in promoting organics & sustainable farming practices. It’s mind blowing, the number of people he has helped through his Royal Foundation. A few years back he donated his wind farm profits of 1.3 billion to the people of Great Britain for the “greater good”. Read about his High Grove Place where he keeps bees, sells the honey & donates all the money to charities. I get the impression sometimes that the citizens of Britain haven’t a clue what gift they have in that man being Head of State & Head of the Commonwealth. If only America would have had the foresight & wisdom at the time to form a Constitutional Monarchy we would now have the strongest form of government there is. And we probably would be in this mess we’re currently in. If I were able to live anywhere it would be Great Britain. Are you familiar with Prince Williams work with the Earthshot Prize? With the unhoused (Homewards)? Another great leader on the horizon. Thanks for appreciating & writing about King Charles. His speeches can be found in full on YouTube via The Royal Channel, the BBC, & the CBC.

  2. British monarchs really do spend their whole lives learning how to be regal when needed. We’re not used to that.

  3. Here is the full throne speech, Susan. And yeah, Nora is correct, Charles was always a decent and good human being, totally overshadowed by his genuinely incredible mom. And as to the Diana “debacle”, he was ALWAYs in love with Camilla but for so many public persona reasons he was pushed into a marriage to a much younger girl with whom he simply was not in love. Really THAT simple. Not the first, won’t be the last to have that issue. But a good decent, and truly very intelligent man.
Here is the speech in full: (PS Note that CBC is .ca and never .com 🙂 )
