[Edit: I know I’m talking about the Royals a lot today, but this visit is important.]

Yes, a very British way. He brought up a number of things in his speech to Congress, and they were completely the opposite of anything Trump wants or says. We know that has to be deliberate. Thank you, King Charles, for doing what anyone else can’t do without being attacked by Trump. Acknowledgement to Raw Story:

An analyst was surprised after King Charles III directed comments at President Donald Trump in his address to Congress on Tuesday.

David Chalian, senior vice president, Washington bureau chief and political director for CNN, commented that King Charles encouraged Trump to support Ukraine, praised his country’s Navy and military after Trump had questioned it, and reinforced his dedication to preserving the world’s environment, areas where Trump has disagreed with the monarch.

Yikes! Y’know, those subjects that were opposite to Trump’s are also the ones opposite to the Republicans in Congress. They’re so happy to go along with what Trump wants that it’s disgusting. King Charles’ message was truly to everyone. Ukraine and climate change are two things that we *should* be thinking about. Too bad the Republicans in Congress don’t seem to care. It still must have been one helluva speech. One wonders if we’ll ever get to hear it.

Chalian described the significant moment in a conversation with CNN anchor Jake Tapper.

“And did not hide from them at all,” Chalian said. “I mean, I think a speech that was putting democratic values, the rule of law, the power of alliances, even a specificon the support of Ukraine’s defense — these stand in complete opposition.

And in fact, some of them are the very things that Donald Trump sort of rails against when he’s complaining about Europe or the UK, specifically.”

Touche, King Charles! He knows damn well what Trump is like. And then to say them in a speech to Congress? Yowza! They *are* in nearly complete opposition to how Trump is doing over here, which is badly. Trump doesn’t give a damn about climate control. He doesn’t give a damn about democracy. He doesn’t give a damn about anything but himself. The question is, did Trump understand it? Remember the issues with his mind, or what’s left of it.

The move highlights the ideological differences between the two leaders, Chalian explained.

“Now, King Charles doesn’t come in here itching for a fight on it,” Chalian added. “He comes in with his position to be above it a bit and in his you know, very British, stiff upper lip kind of way.

It’s not that he was trying to get in a fight with President Trump, but he couldn’t have seized the opportunity more to really stand clear

on the importance of these things

with a value system underneath it

that is in contrast

to a lot of what Donald Trump has been presenting on the world stage as it comes to these alliances.”

Yea, Trump is all about the abuse and the rage and the lies, and we could go on for days with that. King Charles really had the perfect opportunity to talk about these things. More power to him! Now, we’ll see if Trump and Congress understood what King Charles was saying. Trump will probably forget it. Congress? It’s hard to tell. We would hope that “our people” will take this to heart. So, what happens next?

See you soon!

Friends, I know everybody begs you for money. I promise you that of all of the outlets bugging you for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest working. We’re a bunch of old, disabled people, except one writer in his mid-50s. But the rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the ability to continue our quest to tell the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula

  1. Your “… Now, we’ll see if Trump and Congress understood what King Charles was saying. Trump will probably forget it. Congress?…” hits the nail on the head! King Charles gave ‘you know who’ a right royal reaming, in his speech, through the use of very clever diplomatic words.

    • I’m kinda “meh” about King Charles, although I adored Queen Elizabeth II. But he obviously knew what Trump was like to write a speech like that. Of course, he was also likely taken aback a bit by the receiving line Trump kerfluffle.

  2. Will Trump understand King Charles’ speech?
    HELL, NO!
The King is first, last, and always a diplomat, while Trump’s version of diplomacy is more like a brick through a window.
Many in the congressional audience will understand it, but too few Republicans actually care about the country and their constituents to make things happen now.
Hopefully, a. change in the balance of power in DC will take place in November…..
WABC/7 New York aired the speech, but I wasn’t able to watch.

    • I wasn’t able to watch, either 🙁 it was done by the time I found out about it. I’d love to see it, so hopefully it will pop up somewhere.

I think there *are* certain members of Congress who understood it, both Republican, although I hate to admit it, and Democrat. Will they *do* anything with it is the question.
