Now we’re getting into “farce” territory. Paxton was on Fox News (no surprise there) and did not do well. He did badly. Very. To the point that, yes, he was begging. This is not something you should see from a candidate running for any office, let alone the Senate. He is obviously unprepared for such a thing. More power to Talarico! With respect for Raw Story:
Republican Senate nominee Ken Paxton of Texas was pressed by Fox News’ Maria Bartiromo on Sunday as to why he was trailing behind his Democratic opponent in a state President Donald Trump won in 2024 by double digits. “This is a state that President Trump won – why is this race so close, and what are you doing about it?” Bartiromo asked Paxton. In early June, The New York Times’ aggregation of polls showed Paxton with a slight lead in several surveys. However, that lead soon collapsed, with the last seven polls showing Democratic Senate nominee James Talarico with a lead as high as five points as of July 31. He’s falling behind because he’s full of it. He won’t answer questions about his past. Thus far, he hasn’t answered many questions at all. Previous Raw Story pieces have shown that Paxton does not do well at rallies. He seemingly never thought he would be the Republican candidate, and he is *woefully* unprepared for it. All the better for Talarico, who has raised an impressive war chest and is often seen in different places around the state. He’s out there taking questions and presenting his outlook while Paxton is failing at rallies and town halls.
As to why the race had flipped in Talarico’s favor, Paxton blamed the development on the 2026 midterms being a “different environment” when compared with the 2024 election, and took to pleading with Fox News viewers to donate to his campaign. “Go to KenPaxton.com and help us because we need help!” Paxton said. “We need help now because James Talarico has been spending $3 or $4 million a week on TV for the last month.”
See? Begging. That’s really demeaning and really sad that he is reduced to that low. He’s a crappy candidate, but oh, my, not doing well at all. And it’s bothersome that candidates have to spend *millions* on TV ads. Why??!! The costs for running for a political office are ridiculous. The good thing is that Talarico’s war chest can support it. So, it seems Paxton didn’t think about a whole lot of variables of running for a congressional seat. Too bad for him.
A controversial figure in politics, Paxton faced accusations of bribery and abuse of public trust in 2023 during his impeachment trial. He faced accusations of infidelity from his wife, who filed for divorce on “biblical grounds” last year. Paxton was also accused of stealing a $1,000 luxury fountain pen from a courthouse, and faced criticism for offering what critics described as a lenient plea deal to a child abuser during his time as Texas attorney general. Paxton won his GOP primary election in May against incumbent Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) after scoring an endorsement from President Donald Trump, but has remained a controversial figure in politics, even among Republicans.
The man just keeps sliding downhill. Enough people supported him in the primary for him to be in the race, but this is not someone who should be in Congress. There are a couple of folks that were in Congress who either lost their primary or were forced (thank heavens) out due to what they had done – it was disgusting. That was not this year, mind you. Regretfully, the names escape me. Here we are, and Paxton is stressing. He still has 3 months to go before midterms. Republicans are unhappy to have him running, and they’re going to have to spend a lot of money to get him over the finish line, money that could really have been used elsewhere. Oops. Democrats will not have to spend nearly as much because Talarico is kicking ass at fundraising, and he’s a substantially better person. We need to keep an eye on this, because yes, it’s Texas, red Texas, but you never know. Midterms are going to be *interesting* this year.
