You know, this is starting to get kind of like when you were a kid, and you played a game of HORSE with your sister. In order to be fair, you normally spotted her the H-O. The GOP is desperate to back at least the House, if not the Senate, which should easily be accomplishable, and instead the GOP is doing everything in their power to spot the Democrats that H-O.
Case in point. The GOP Senate ordered Maricopa County Arizona “audit” is a spectacular success. At least in the fevered brain of el Pendejo Presidente, he is obsessed with it. Everybody else on the other hand, is running from it like it has radioactive cooties jumping off of it. There are even a handful of GOP AZ state Senators who are expressing sincere regret that they ever got tied up with this mega turd.
But because Trump loves it like a porn star, that makes it holy writ. Several Pennsylvania state Senators flew out to Phoenix to get a tour, and watch the spectacle in person. They want to do their own audit. There is a county in Michigan that wants to hire another totally unqualified company to try there. And Trump is sending out emissaries to apply pressure in Georgia and Wisconsin.
This is such a train wreck looking for a track for the GOP in so many ways, but let’s start with one. The whole thing is a fucking joke! Arizona was lucky simply because in going first, they were able to sell the whole mess as a dignified process done by qualified contractors. But because the whole thing was such an unadulterated disaster, and so widely mocked and ridiculed in the national media, it is likely that GOP politicians are going to run into considerable constituent pressure if they try to replicate it.
And it won’t get any easier. Only Georgia has unified statewide GOP control. The Democratic Arizona Secretary of State has already advised the Maricopa County Elections Board that they are on the hook for the cost of replacing every voting machine the Cyber Ninja’s touched in time for the 2022 elections. Michigan’s Democratic DoD has already advised that county that they were forbidden from turning over either ballots or voting machines in audit they order. The Democratic Attorney General is already threatening the GOP state legislature with a lawsuit if they try to tamper with votes and voting equipment. And who know what Wisconsin has up their sleeve.
And then there’s money, it always comes down to money. Arizona got it on the cheap, the Senate only authorized $150,000 for an audit expected to cost $3.5 million, and Cyber Ninja’s is crowd sourcing the rest. That may work for one larcenous outfit, but when you throw in the expenses for Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Georgia, the sucker pool will dry up in a hurry.
But here’s the worst reason why this is such a disaster, because it’s a total waste! The GOP is following a delusional madman. Trump, thanks to sniveling sycophants who keep whispering in Trump’s ear that these rogue operations are the secret to his return to the Oval Office, Trump honestly believes that he’ll be back in the Oval Office by August. And in going to these extremes to coddle Trump’s delusions, they make themselves look as sad, sick, and pathetic as he is. Tick-Tock. The midterms are coming.
