Karmic Kick A$$: Chuck Woolery Announces Son Has COVID-19, Deletes Twitter Account

Lady Karma is a tough old broad and she just meted out a piece of justice so poetic that if you wrote about it in a novel, you would be laughed at, because it would seem contrived. But the truth is stranger than fiction, and in the Era of Trump, it’s stranger than science fiction. You remember a few days ago former Love Connection host Chuck Woolery tweeted that coronavirus was a hoax designed to destroy Donald Trump? And Trump happily retweeted it? The tweet is gone but here’s what it said.

“The most outrageous lies are the ones about Covid 19. Everyone is lying. The CDC, Media, Democrats, our Doctors, not all but most, that we are told to trust. I think it’s all about the election and keeping the economy from coming back, which is about the election. I’m sick of it.”

Well, guess what? Woolery’s son has the coronavirus and Woolery has withdrawn from Twitter, tail between legs. The Hill:

“To further clarify and add perspective, Covid-19 is real and it is here. My son tested positive for the virus, and I feel for of those suffering and especially for those who have lost loved ones,” Woolery tweeted before his account disappeared.

The message comes after Woolery tweeted Monday denouncing “outrageous lies” being told about the coronavirus, comments that Trump retweeted to his more than 83 million followers.

Frankly, I tip my hat to Woolery for at least admitting he was wrong and withdrawing. At least he is able to feel shame. Not like Trump, who said this to a CBS reporter who asked about the retweet and asked who people should believe, Trump or medical professionals.

“I didn’t make a comment,” Trump responded. “I reposted a tweet that a lot of people feel. But all I am doing is making a comment. I’m just putting somebody’s voice out there. There are many voices. There are many people that think we shouldn’t do this kind of testing, because all we do, it’s a trap.”

There’s your snack of word salad gibberish, which is all that the titular commander in chief can cobble together these days. Did you catch the latest Rose Garden press conference, where Trump said Joe Biden was going to outlaw windows? Seriously, he said that. Something about Green Energy and Biden working with AOC, conflates to working in a cold office and your windows won’t work — or something. Listen, if you can translate Trump speak, there are jobs for you. Go up to any media outlet and say that you understand WTF Donald Trump is talking about and you’ll get an audience, believe me.

Now the thought I want to end on may sound nasty, but I’ll risk it. And that is: Woolery saw this all as a game, until it affected him personally. There are so many idiots out there now, who think exactly the same way. It’s fun to call the virus a hoax and become infuriated when asked to put on a mask, and kick and scream and say it’s all a plot against the Great Orange One. But when it’s you, or one of yours who take ill with COVID-19, then the dialogue changes dramatically.

Don’t get me wrong. I am not happy this happened to Chuck Woolery. I feel sorry for the man that the virus has touched his life, along with so many others. I am saying that it is tragic that he had to have his son take ill with the virus before the blinders came off and he saw the truth. I am wondering how many more Woolerys there will have to be, before coronavirus stops being a culture war talking point and we all pull together and deal with it, united?

And of course it goes without saying, that if Trump would just do a Chuck Woolery, admit he was wrong, and admit the severity of what is happening in this country and beg his supporters to do the right thing and take precautions, we would get there more quickly. But Trump is constitutionally incapable of either honesty or empathy and he’s going to continue to double down and more people are going to die until we can vote him him out.

Condolences to the Woolery family. Let’s hope their family member pulls through. If only Woolery and Trump and the Republican party would simply realize that we’re ALL members of the same family, the family of man, and treat this as the health and humanitarian crisis that it is, we’d be on the path to healing, in more ways than one.
