But he went, and Usha went with him, with no idea about their kids. Of course, that’s a pretty luxurious plane to use for travel. Oh, if the rest of us could only get treated decently. (Not a chance of it, ever.) It could be ‘dangerous’ to touch anything in there. But we’ve only had glimpses of the interiors, so it’s an unknown at this time, so that’s all we know. Thanks to Denis for the JD nickname! With gratitude to Raw Story:
Vice President JD Vance was reportedly booed at the Milan Cortina Winter Games as U.S. Olympians denounced President Donald Trump’s administration. A video shared on social media showed the audience booing Vance as the camera panned by him during the Opening Ceremony on Friday. “Those are a lot of boos for him,” one announcer noted.
You know it, you love it, altogether now, Gee, ya THINK? There were likely a ton of boos wherever he went, and we can almost guess it’s from overseas people, too. People over here are getting all bent that our athletes have spoken out against ICE and the current (mal) administration. How about that freedom of speech the morons are always bringing up? Well, that goes for all of us.
We can also be almost completely sure our athletes want nothing to do with Vance. It also just occurred to me that Trump might try to take their medals! I honestly wouldn’t put it past him. Hopefully, J(usta) D(umbass) Vance has a few more brain cells than Trump and won’t try to do that, because it could *certainly* cause a scene. They earn them, and JD can go jump on a mop handle sideways.
At a press conference, members of the U.S. figure skating team were asked about the Trump administration’s use of Immigration and Customs Enforcement to crack down on migrants. “I feel heartbroken about what’s happened in the United States when, you know, I’m pretty sure you’re referencing ICE and some of the protests and things like that,” freestyle skater Chris Lillis told reporters. “I think that as a country, we need to focus on respecting everybody’s rights and making sure that we’re treating our citizens as well as anybody with love and respect.”
There it is, upfront and laid out. Kinda wish I had thought about the situations in our country. That was beautifully said. There are times when beauty overrides anger (and its cousins), and this is definitely one of those. If only the people who need to hear this would. It might get them to think for a little while, instead of screaming at each other. There’s far more to be depressed about, but we have athletes in the Olympics, and we need to support them. Rise above it, as the phrase goes. Rise above it.
“It brings up mixed emotions to represent the U.S. right now, I think. It’s a little hard,” skater Hunter Hess agreed. “There’s obviously a lot going on that I’m not the biggest fan of, and I think a lot of people aren’t.” “Just because I’m wearing the flag doesn’t mean I represent everything that’s going on in the U.S.,” he added. “So yeah, I just kind of want to do it for my friends and my family and the people that support me getting here.”
I wonder if they actually sent ICE agents over there because that would be a HUGE mistake. We are better than this. We are better than Trump’s accusations, bloviating, and babbling. His ‘cabinet’ is garbage. But We the People are better than that. So let’s watch and support our athletes at the Olympics and forget about the shizzle for a while.
Friends, I know everyone begs you for money. I promise that among all those asking for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest-working. We’re a group of old, disabled people, except for one writer in his mid-50s. The rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the chance to keep telling the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula

Deep down inside Vance knows that despite being the presumptive front-runner to take over the GOP/MAGA in 2028 that’s far from a lock. He surgically attached himself at the hip with Trump and that’s served to keep the MAGAs at bay for now. But they’ve got their doubts about him and under the white-hot spotlight of a Presidential campaign Vance (I think) worries he won’t have the iron grip on MAGA that Trump still has. AND that Trump’s own grip while still strong is weakening. Not by much so far, but some MAGAs are disillusioned and more will be as more Epstein information comes out. Also, if Congressional Republicans can’t find a way to undo cuts to Medicaid resulting from the BUFB (BBB) as more small-town/rural hospitals close it’s really going to piss off people in red states and rural swaths of blue states, i.e. my home state of Illinois. Again, not that they will turn around and vote for Democrats, but not voting is almost as good for our side.
Vance can see all this. Even if he does manage to get the GOP nomination the plain fact is he won’t have the MAGA support that’s been Trump’s primary weapon for over ten years now. Unique literally means one-of-a-kind and Trump’s creation of and hold on MAGA is unique. MAGA will still matter AT (After Trump) but not have the political force he’s wrung from it.
What I’m driving at is that I think Vance knows politically he’s a supernova, and out there in the universe as brilliant a celestial event as they are they fade quickly. Within weeks. He knows that there’s not a chance in hell that even with the GOP nomination he’ll get elected in 2028 and his career will be over. He’ll try to publish a book or two which will flop. He’s got a lot of life ahead and his ill-gotten gains from his faux opus Hillbilly Elegy but he’s going to have to make do with that and little more.
So, he’s going to grab up every “goodie”/perk he can while the getting is good. Like attending the Olympics.
He is certainly *not* going to be the new MAGA king. He just won’t. He has nothing to put himself at the Republican head, and at the MAGA head. He just doesn’t have it. And he’s an idiot. He proves it time and time again. He has slim to nothing chances of being the nominee. I think it’s more likely someone else with a better chance will try and get it. But I also don’t see any Republican at the head of the pack, either. Also I agree on the goody/perks as well.
It’s hard to get any info about potential ICE deployment to Milan, but it’s possible that members of Homeland Security Investigations, an internal ICE unit dealing with cross-border crime, were sent. HSI personnel are, apparently, often sent to foreign events as security agents. They are unconnected with the ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) units currently rampaging through American cities, as far as we know.
Oh, okay, thank you! I was not aware of that. Appreciate the info!
