Journalist’s “Coverage” of Cocaine In WH – Covering For One Of Their Own?

I’m not saying illegal drugs being found at the WH isn’t news.  It is.  However, the stories I see about it sure look to me like trying to make something much bigger out of the story than warranted.  Specifically, to be able to shout SQUIRREL!!!!, by which I mean Hunter Biden.  As in having fallen off the rehab wagon and tooting coke in the West Wing.  Earlier today, before a storm knocked out my internet I read a story from Fox that breathlessly announced the WH Press Secretary had lied!  The headline implied that as one read the details of the story that followed it would be “obvious” that the coke was Hunter Biden’s.

To listen to some journalists including some from respected outlets that should know better you’d think that instead of being a tiny amount of cocaine, enough for maybe three or four snoots up the nose with one of those ridiculously tiny spoons they’d found a stash like the one shown in the title pic. (and in whatever room in the WH Hunter Biden stays in when he’s there)

Unfortunately for journalists that pesky old truth if rather different.  I’d have gotten exasperated long before Karine Jean-Pierre did when she finally got fed up and firmly noted that the Bidens hadn’t been at the WH for DAYS before and even an entire day after the cocaine was found.  While she might have been more precise and noted exactly when on Friday the point when no Biden family member was still there, the fact is that by the end of the workday they all were gone.  That a full 48 hours, TWO DAYS of other people (and not even most senior administration folks among them) were coming and going, and how regularly searches are done.

However, being the kind of people (a$$holes) they so often are, the WH press corps of course wants DETAILS.  A “tick tock” on where (seemingly) every member of the Biden family including and especially Hunter, every member of the Biden administration and WH staff, both current and former was for at least a week leading up to Sunday’s discovery of that little bag (enough for a few snorts up the nose with a “coke spoon”) in that little cubbyhole/bin.  But let’s be real folks, the scandal, the “Gate” is what journalists crave. (I’m shocked it’s not already turned into Cocaine-Gate followed by – “Hunter Biden?  What did the President know and when did he learn his son had fallen off the rehab wagon?) Not boring stuff like all the good President Biden’s policies have been doing, or even interesting stuff like Trump’s (and his attorney’s) legal problems.

Nope, give journalists a chance to act like “journalists” and flog some shiny bauble of a story that doesn’t mean jack to the well-being of the country overall or individual people’s lives an by god they will flog that horse to death and keep going until there’s nothing left.  Even NBC’s Andrea Mitchell got in on the action, carrying on (no doubt with production staff ready to shove her a fainting couch) about how not just anyone could get into that area where the cocaine was found.  Did I miss something?  Was it found down in the Situation Room?   We’ve seen this crap from journalism over and over again in recent decades.  Any, and I mean ANY chance to babble on, even hype some little thing or another instead of you know WORKING and covering actual meaningful news and they will do so.  In a heartbeat.

After all, what could be “sexier”, more attention grabbing than cocaine in the West Wing, combined with the never hidden fact that the President’s son is a recovering addict?  They are more eager to draw a line starting with that first part to putting an arrow pointing to the second part than Trump using his sharpie to alter an actual NOAA hurricane forecast map!

I’m calling bullsh*t.

As our second President John Adams said, facts are stubborn things so let me remind you of some.  Yes, the initial reporting was a little fuzzy and “entrance” or “lobby” was taken by many to mean the lobby of the WH where most enter.  From there you can make your way to the West Wing, and there’s heavy public access.  But there is also another entrance to the West Wing although it’s not nearly as exclusive as some, including the normally staid Andrea Mitchell would have you believe.  West Wing staff can use it.  So can other members of an administration and their guests/staff brought along.  So can Congress Critters and their own staff and guests.  And so can journalists!  A badge allowing someone to use that entrance isn’t quite so “exclusive” after all.  Oh, before I forget we still don’t have a credible report on at which entrance the drugs were found.

Here’s the best part.  Especially on days when regular business isn’t going on, like weekends and holidays VIPs including Congress Critters can escort a group of guests for a special tour of much of the WH including the West Wing.  With permission I think some members of the WH press corps can too.  I could be wrong about that but some earn a certain level of trust and privilege and it’s not like the Secret Service (both the Special Agents and the more regular LE type uniformed ones) are there keeping an eye out.  Whether a President or other high up types are in the place (or even in DC) or not.

Here’s something else that’s a fact.  Those little bins, one of which contained that little bit of cocaine?  They get checked regularly!  Yep, security sweeps are routine.  Especially of any space the public (even though they are escorted) has access to.  Multiple times per day, every day of the year.  And places like those bins WILL get a look.  Mostly people put cell phones, or key rings/keys in them but sometimes other items.  You can be sure each gets a look, and any type of container or say a small zippered pouch will be opened and checked to make sure nothing harmful or nefarious in some way is inside.  Hell, it was such a routine check that found the blow in the first place!

What I’m saying is that after it’s a proven fact every member of the Biden family was at Ft. McNair and boarding the 6pm or so helicopter ride to Camp David we had 6pm Friday evening and the rest of that day, all day Saturday and Sunday up until around 6pm go by with that little cubbyhole in that bin being checked again and again.  There’s no f**king way in hell Hunter or any other Biden family member left it there.  None.  Zero.  And journalists goddamned well know it!  (So do House Republicans who are of course making noise but seem to be careful about getting out over their skis on this one)

It boils down to a huge Inconvenient Truth – all of the Biden family including Hunter were out of the WH by late afternoon on the Friday before the 4th.  Two full days went by before that little zippered pouch was noticed and opened up, revealing a tiny amount of cocaine in a little plastic bag.   Like I said, it’s a story, news but just not the one journalists, especially those in the WH Press Corps want to be telling!

Hell, as I’ve said even goober Congress Critters who want nothing more than to drive Hunter Biden to commit suicide to knock his father off his game know the truth.  Which is that Hunter had nothing to do with those drugs.  Some poor at the bottom of the totem pole staffer who got stuck with WH duty that day?  Possibly.  Some member of the public on some special access long weekend tour?  More likely.  Or even some journalist who was there for a while for whatever reason and wanted to see if one of their sources was by chance around.  Or one of THEIR friends they’d hooked up with a tour.

I find it hard to believe that the area in question wasn’t covered pretty well by cameras and that those tasked with investigating this don’t have a pretty good idea, if not know who the actual culprit is.  I also think the reason we don’t yet know that person’s identity is because it’s either someone who was being given a tour by a Congress Critters (including and especially a GOP one who would want to take advantage of access when there was no chance of running into the President or other higher up and having to pretend to be nice in front of MAGAs who’d want them to make a scene) or by some friend of a journalist.  If it was a WH staffer or someone connected to one it would have leaked by now.

Journalists I believe are covering.  And in Trumpian/GOP tradition pointing fingers – at the Biden family and specifically Hunter.

So again, I call bullsh*t on this “story.”  Maybe it was a fellow journalist or a family member or friend they’d hooked up for a tour that’s responsible.
