Holy cow! Parts of Congress are trying something else to turn people against people. They are, again, spreading major lies and misdirections, and, as stated, this is some bullsh!t. There is *no* “Antifa”, “Pro-Hamas”, “Marxists”. People are planning to PEACEFULLY protest against essentially the excuse for a government that most obviously cares nothing about the people and only for themselves. But no. A peaceful protest is going to be a planned riot. GTF outta here!
The Republicans are trying to blame anyone *except* themselves for the government shutdown. They won’t admit they caused it due to one simple thing, and that is healthcare for millions of people. They don’t want the Democrats to see that they were wrong, and we are right. All of this for a would-be dictator. They’ve enabled him for so long that they don’t know *how* to speak for the people anymore! From AlterNet:
Speaker Johnson lashed out at next week’s “No Kings” rallies, which are expected to attract millions of Americans across the nation. “The theory we have right now,” Speaker Johnson told Fox News on Friday, “they have a hate-America rally that’s scheduled for October 18 on the National Mall. It’s the pro-Hamas wing and Antifa people, they’re all coming out.” Calling the protests against authoritarianism an “outrageous gathering for outrageous purposes,” Johnson later said attendees would include “the Antifa crowd, and the pro-Hamas crowd, and the Marxists.” Other Republicans on Friday went even further, with one, House Republican Majority Whip Tom Emmer, baselessly invoking a “terrorist” claim.
Good grief. They’re getting desperate. We can hope that the American people can see through to the truth. We already know that people are leaving MAGA, and not just because of disgust at what Trump is doing in public. There’s a lot of embarrassment, too. They were caught believing in something that would never happen. The economy is going down. Inflation is going up. Tariffs hurt *everyone*. And there are still no signs of the Epstein files that he promised to release – just lie after lie, misdirect, talk that means nothing. *All* of us want to see those.
Instead, we get lies and nonsense about the government shutting down. It’s becoming more obvious that most of the Republicans do not want any discussions for a bipartisan solution. No, they try to pretend they will have nothing to do with what the Democrats want. Too bad for them. We want to extend the Obamacare credits so people don’t have to give up theirs, and can have *affordable* healthcare. That’s a good thing. Republicans don’t want to admit they made a mistake. Back to the protests.
The Steady State, a group that includes more than 330 former ambassadors, inspectors general, flag officers, Defense and Homeland Security officials, and senior intelligence officers, blasted the Speaker’s remarks. “Johnson is branding the planned No Kings rally a ‘hate America rally,’ warning that all the ‘Antifa people’ will be there,” the group wrote. “He calls it ‘serious business’ and claims it’s ‘hurting real people.’” “But Johnson, a constitutional lawyer, knows better,” they said. “Peaceful protest is not only protected under the First Amendment—it is a core democratic right and a cornerstone of American freedom.”
BOOM. There it is. Peaceful protest. That’s what the last No Kings was, and there is no reason to believe this one won’t be. Again, *peaceful* protest. This will make all of us head to the protest, and even more so if we were unable to go to the first one. We see what the Republicans are doing. We see that they’re running scared and searching for anything they can use to misdirect the anger that all of us are feeling about the government shutdown. Guess what, folks in Congress? You put that bloated bill through without really looking at the changes made by the Senate. It’s on *your* heads, Congress majority. And Joni Ernst, who was the one vote needed to pass that bloated, big, ugly bill. Republicans wanted to pass something, anything, for the bucket of orange, overweight ass in the White House to sign by July 4.
The No Kings coalition, responsible for the upcoming rallies, also responded to Speaker Johnson. “After a few moments of laughter, the No Kings coalition issued the following statement: ‘Speaker Johnson is running out of excuses for keeping the government shut down. Instead of reopening the government, preserving affordable healthcare, or lowering costs for working families, he’s attacking millions of Americans who are peacefully coming together to say that America belongs to its people, not to kings”.
Gee, ya think? America DOES belong to its people and not to a king. It belongs to its people and not to wannabe dictator Trump. We may have to go “underground” and be careful about when we come out. So we will. Many of us see Republicans for what they are trying to do. Spinning isn’t going to help. Fearmongering isn’t going to help. Nothing is going to help until Republicans admit what all of us see – that they are the ones responsible for the shutdown and come to the table to actually *talk* and *discuss* what needs to be done to reopen, Trump or no Trump. Get some balls, Republicans. Ignore the fat, dementia-ridden, paints his face ORANGE “Fearless Leader”. DO something. Pay attention to WHY we are protesting. Come to the table to talk and get this done. In the meantime, let’s go No Kings! Kick ass!
Friends, I know everyone asks you for money. I promise you, of all the outlets asking for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest working. We’re a group of old, disabled people, except for one writer in his mid-50s. The rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the chance to keep telling the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula
