This makes complete sense. The existence of the intelligence communities in this country far predates Donald Trump and his MAGA mob. And the people in those agencies have sworn an oath to the Constitution and they intend to keep intelligence matters safe. Trump has already shown that he’s too much of a child to be intrusted with national security matters. You well recall the boxes found at Mar-a-Lago where Top Secret files were commingled with clothing, newspaper articles and makeup bottles, everything willy nilly thrown together, a perfect representation of the disorder of Trump’s mind.
Half of America and the rest of the world are horrified that this man is going to be in charge of the nuclear codes and while nothing can be done about that — at least for the moment — former CIA Director John Brennan has an opinion on how intelligence matters are going to be conducted in this country going forward.
Yes, there were hopes that Trump would “grow into” the job. Those hopes will not be renewed now. Trump dashed them forever.
My read on this is that the professionals in the intelligence community, both here in this country and their counterparts abroad, will work around Trump’s extremists. We are now a cause for concern to sane nations with rational government at the helm. Our allies will do what they can to protect themselves.
I see this as a kind of quarantine situation. Trump is in charge, yes. But he and his goons can’t have their eyes and ears everywhere all at once. So the pros will mind the store while the proverbial bulls run through the china shop.
I wish them all luck. MAGA is a kind of virus and whatever our intelligence agencies can do to contain it and protect themselves and us is encouraging news. And of course this lends credence to accusations of a shadow government and Trump will be hollaring “Deep State” at the top of his lungs. That’s a reality that he’s going to have to deal with.
Trump is going to be amazed at the amount of resistance that he’s met with. He’s drunk with power right now and intending to be a dictator but he might find the actual doing of that a bit more complicated than he figured. Charlie Sykes quoted an Iranian Canadian journalist, Arash Azizi. Here’s what he had to say:
“The essence of America has always been the battle over its essence. No one election has ever determined its complete or permanent nature, and that is as true now as it was in 1860 and 1876. If today’s America is the America of Donald Trump, it is also the America of those who would stand up to him.”
That is what we need to remember. We are fully half the nation, the resistance to this maniac. That’s not a small number. And we shall overcome.
No one, I repeat, no one will ever stand up to the tyrant. Period. Full stop. Nope. Will never happen. Sorry, but I respectfully disagree.
I agree with you Carol. No one ever has yet and now with his total supreme power who would it be??
And it’s also not just *who* will stand up to him, but *how* to stand up to him. Yes, I think it can be done, but it’s a much more complicated question than we want to think.
My daughter once said, long ago…The people will Revolt, when a Government takes away their TOYS or way of life! When people have nothing, they have nothing to lose. This would take some time for the well-off but for many in this Country, they have been suffering for a long time. We would have to come together & organize to make this happen. Sadly, I’m not holding my breath.
