The Marines may go from the halls of Montezuma to the shores of Tripoli but only Strike Force Rudy goes from the parking lot of Four Seasons Landscaping to farts on live television to the birth of an SNL character in Mellissa Carone and then on to a congressional subpoena. This has been quite an odyssey, and it’s about to get odder still. Politico:

[Jenna] Ellis wrote two memos in the days before the attack on the Capitol arguing that then-Vice President Mike Pence could take unusual moves to reject some of President Joe Biden’s electors and prevent Congress from certifying his victory. One of those memos, dated Jan. 5, argued that some provisions of the Electoral Count Act were unconstitutional.

Investigators also issued a subpoena to attorney Sidney Powell, who led a series of failed lawsuits attempting to reverse the election results. Powell also huddled with Trump and other advisers in the Oval Office in December 2020 to discuss last-ditch options for overturning the results. Trump briefly considered naming her special counsel to investigate the election results.

Boris Epshteyn, a former Trump campaign strategic adviser, was also subpoenaed. Epshteyn had been present at the Willard Hotel, where Giuliani and other advisers had led a “war room” on efforts to overturn Biden’s win, according to the Washington Post. Epshteyn had urged protesters to “stay PEACEFUL and respect the LAW” in a tweet on Jan. 6.

“The four individuals we’ve subpoenaed today advanced unsupported theories about election fraud, pushed efforts to overturn the election results, or were in direct contact with the former President about attempts to stop the counting of electoral votes,” Chair Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) said in a statement, calling on them to join the “nearly 400 witnesses” interviewed so far by the committee.

It’s well known that investigations of this nature start out subpoenaing those on the outer rims of a case and then work inward towards the more knowledgeable and culpable individuals. The fact that this fabulous four have been subpoenaed is telling.

And will they pull a Kevin McCarthy? Most probably? It looks like the J6 Committee is going to have to use every legal device in the books to get cooperation from people who, if they really had done nothing wrong, as they allege, would be only too happy to come forth.

Now it gets intense. Now the J6 Committee is forced to bring on the big guns to compel compliance. And people who haven’t been subpoenaed so far know who they are and they’re getting squeamish.

Help keep the site running, consider supporting.

  1. I hope Rudy testifies in prime time on TV. I know it’s not likely, but a girl can dream. Even a third-rate lawyer, which is probably all he can afford now, would advise against. It would be glorious, think Four Seasons Landscaping on steroids.

  2. At least these people can’t claim the Speech & Debate clause for protection. (Not that the congresscritters they’re looking at should be able to: their jobs do not include overturning elections.)

  3. Why not subpoena the three stooges? U will get more cooperation, albeit with some chaos, & maybe some laughs. Besides, ms. Clueless has already admitted under oath she couldn’t imagine anyone taking her seriously. Oops! Guess it shows how limited this pack of rabid moles’ imaginations are.
