This may seem minor in terms of what’s happened today, but hopefully the distraction will be worthwhile. Yet another hare-brained idea of something that was already fading away, and now he wants to bring it back to its former glory, and improve it. The costs will be prohibitive. He thinks it would be a symbol that will help in the fight against crime, nearly an El Salvador type. I doubt it will work. And it’s going to cost about a gazillion dollars to get back up and running, especially with additional “planned improvements”.
I’m willing to bet you’ve figured out what I’m talking about from the hints in the first paragraph, because yup, that would be Alcatraz. A crazy tRump thinks it would be a great place to send murderers and so forth, a symbol of what happens to “bad” people. I’ll bet it’s going to be a CECOT type – once you go in, you’re not coming out. I’ll be polite and won’t rant about CECOT today, which I’m sure will be a nice change. Ha.
It’s going to cost so, so much money to get Alcatraz back up and running. Don’t forget he wants to build more onto the prison to hold more people. The place is in horrible shape, having been closed down in 1963. It’s been a tourist attraction ever since, and makes a decent chunk of money by doing so. I’m wondering if Traitor Tot has seen the pictures of CECOT and wants to restore and build to have something similar to it. Isn’t that an interesting question? The one advantage would be that families can know their loved ones caught up in the stupid raids would still be here in the US.
I’ve seen bits and pieces here and there that say it’s going to cost billions of dollars before it can be used again. I’d say that the burden will be on us taxpayers to pay for it. The Cheeto Prophet isn’t going to put a penny into it. Maybe Muskrat will contribute. He spends money so freely. he probably wouldn’t miss a billion or two. Elon would think it would make him look good, even though he won’t. After all, we’re talking about a high-security prison. I’ve seen pictures of the interior. It’s in poor shape, and that’s just the cells, let alone the rest of the building!
Maybe he just wants to restore something to its former “glory” because it will live on after him. The way he’s going downhill, well, wouldn’t surprise me. Of course, this man won’t *publicly* acknowledge he’s having some trouble, but when he’s alone at night and no one to see? Maybe. It’s a good reason for Agent Orange to rant on Truth Social, so he doesn’t have to think about it. But this is an uneducated guess. Heh.
I don’t see the point. Expensive to restore, expensive to maintain, expensive to take care of the people there, and expensive to have to bring in everything by boat. If it was closed down SIXTY-ONE YEARS AGO, there *had* to have been a reason and a very good one. Annnnd I should have read further down in the article.
The president is not disguising the attraction of Alcatraz as an allegory for his leadership, calling the island “a sad symbol, but it’s a symbol of law and order,” on Sunday. On Monday, he recalled for reporters at the White House that the former prison once held “the most violent criminals in the world.
Well, I guess I was right. So there you have it. Aren’t you excited?

I’m advocating for a special island prison where the world’s worst criminals and most corrupt leaders could be permanently incarcerated. Alcatraz would be a candidate, but the best would be an abandoned military base in the Aleutians. I’m certain the UN or a Go-Fund-Me could raise a few thousand dollars to spruce up some tar-paper shacks and put in the necessary outdoor plumbing.
We’d all sleep better at night knowing that trump, Putin and a Saudi prince or two were spending the rest of their natural days huddled around a fuming kerosene stove on an icy weather-beaten rock with no chance of escape.

Trump wants a Western Mar- a-Lago without having to build one. Some day, Trump may be its most illustrious resident since Al Capone. Unfortunately, if this happens before the next presidential election, he will simply pardon himself and make Alcatraz the 51st or 52nd State, (depending on when he takes over Vatican City and elects himself Pope).
