We had all so hoped and prayed for an early and decisive call. And when I say “we” I don’t mean Democrats. I mean everybody in the country wanted to avoid another long, drawn out wait for the election to be decided. We did not get that. As I said a few hours ago, the best information I can find is saying that Thursday or Friday will be when the election is called. Here’s one person’s assessment.
I know it’s easier said than done, but Democrats should try to chill out. Pennsylvania will decide this election, and signs are looking good for Kamala Harris to win there.

Only one swing state has been called so far, North Carolina. Georgia is by no means lost at this point. It also is by no means won. It’s likely to be a nailbiter.
Harris needs to hold the blue wall. That’s been the core plan all along, the blue wall plus Nebraska second district. All the red states expected to come in for Trump have come in. That’s a done deal. We are now waiting on the swing states.
What is tragic here is that we really are two countries. This has been the case since 2016. We are two countries, living contiguously and commingled, but listening to two different versions of reality in two separate information silos. We are two different cultures.
All we can do is hurry up and wait. Patience is not a virtue that I possess, personally. But there is nothing that we can do.
Counting of the ballots has just begun in Arizona and there is .8 of a point between Trump and Harris right now. This is nothing short of horrifically depressing, how close this election is, considering the fact that the man on the GOP ticket is a convicted felon and an adjudicated rapist. I admit to abject horror at this point, but again, the only explanation for this is the one that I’ve given, which is that we are two countries right now.
Harris does have an option involving Arizona, God forbid Pennsylvania goes by the boards. If she can win Arizona and Nevada, then she needs Michigan and Georgia. By far the simplest combination is holding the blue wall and getting the blue dot in Nebraska. Then Nevada will be gravy and Arizona wouldn’t be crucial.
Do not panic. Remember, in 2016 it was all over and over fast. That was not the case in 2020. And it’s definitely not the case in 2024. So keep your head and stay tuned. We do not have the overwhelming victory that we had hoped and prayed for but we emphatically have not lost. It’s only midnight on the east coast. There is a lot of counting yet to take place.

Harris has just lost Georgia.
We just lost the Senate.
Either she sweeps Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsy, or Donald Trump is President again.
Looking grim midnight central.
Trump wins Pennsylvania, and Alaska.
it’s over.
Well…welcome to Germany in the 30s when millions couldn’t believe the reality thrust upon them. This feeling reminds me of being an abused child trapped with nothing to do about it but endure it. Now the task is to survive and endure. Quit? Nope. I really worry for the children whose parents have sold them down the river. Someone call Ben Franklin and let him know we let our republic slip away.
I guess Bezos will be selling 10 packs of swastika armbands and boot polish combo packs on Amazon tomorrow.
Wasn’t that long. What will be long is the next four plus years.
4 years? I probably won’t live that long. And for me, given what we’re looking at, I’m tempted to say that I would almost welcome that. What I really hate though is what we are leaving children and grandchildren. I have 3 and 8 respectively. I don’t really know what I can say to them. There’s more than enough blame to go around and I’m sure sites like PZ and others will get around to enumerating that soon enough. Meanwhile, I’m going to find something to help me get to sleep and for a few blessed hours, exist somewhere else. One thing I damn well know for sure, there is no God!!!
he got Pen and declared, my prayers are with you all
