If there’s one thing you can depend upon in a kakistocracy, it’s that foreign dignitaries will get insulted. Protocol is just too much of a bother to deal with. That said, King Charles may actually laugh at the international distress signal being displayed during his recent visit. He probably feels that way. Raw Story:
Officials in Washington, D.C., had already included 15 Australian flags by mistake alongside British and American banners ahead of the king’s visit, and critics called the latest blunder unacceptable.
“Oh F–! I take it the American flag has that little box of stars in the corner so you know which way to hang it up???” wondered historian Andy Gabriel-Powell. “Even at Arlington, the most solemn of places, you STILL couldn’t get ours right. (It’s upside down).”
One social media user singled out a Trump administration official who should have been tasked with preventing such errors.
“Isn’t it Monica Crowley’s job to see to it that these protocols are done correctly?” asked X user Carolyn M. Maxey, referring the U.S. chief of protocol. “This is two failures on her offices part. I wouldn’t expect anything less from this administration.”
“The British flag is upside down,” groaned X user Tim Smith. “This is traditionally a distress signal.”
What’s tragic about all this is that Washington is filled with people who know about these things. Trump is just too much of a buffoon to hire anybody competent.
Just in case people don’t see the problem, look at the Union Jack that’s shown in the picture. That diagonal red stripe nearest the staff should be along the OTHER side of the white stripe. Generally speaking, when the hoist/pole/staff is on the “Left” side of the flag (or the hoist is to the viewer’s left), the Left diagonal reds should be on the Lower side of the Left diagonal white stripes while the right diagonal reds should on the upper side of the right diagonal white stripes.
