He is definitely Not Happy. The job numbers report has the possibility of sinking him, especially coming in on top of the whole Epstein saga (which I hope doesn’t go away for a long, long time). He is trying to pretend that what we all know is the truth isn’t the real truth. *His* truth is right. But *we* know it isn’t. Even MAGA is (finally) learning he is full of … something. From AlterNet:
An angry, desperate Trump claimed without evidence that the (EDIT: job) numbers were “rigged” in a post in which he said, the economy is “BOOMING.” Trump’s action signaled he will try to cook the books, killing reliable economic data. What other numbers would he try to fake? The markets and the entire world economy rely on accurate data. The ramifications could be staggering—and the opposite of what Trump would be attempting to do—causing massive uncertainty and broad disbelief, sending the economy into free fall.
Yea, that. We don’t need this. We’re already looking at a recession, and getting closer every day. If Trump overrode Jerome Powell and the Fed, then forced a drop in the interest rate, it’s practically assured. The Supreme Court says he can’t do that, but when did it matter to him that he couldn’t do something? He just changes the rules so he can.
So why was Trump so spooked by the numbers to engage in such an impulsive and reckless action that even many in his party were freaked out by? Because Trump and those in the White House who might have supported his action are exceedingly desperate, as their authoritarian project is facing what could be insurmountable resistance. The Epstein saga, a completely unexpected revolt within the MAGA base, has thrown them off, split their supporters, and proven to be uncontrollable—a ravaging wildfire. Without a unified base, any would-be dictator of a representative democracy who is attempting to transform it into an authoritarian state is dealing with enormous drag.
As I was saying. What Trump wants, and what he’s getting, are two completely different things. MAGA is having a fit about Epstein. And so are we. That comes out to be more than half of the country, so he has a bigger reason to worry. Project 2025 or not, things are not going the way he apparently planned. And with his memory shot, he may not even remember much of it.
Hegseth, Bondi, Noem, Gabbard, all chosen for their loyalty. They are doing exactly what he wants them to do. Ghislaine Maxwell may have a pardon or commutation. That one’s really going to make the defecation hit the rotary air-moving device. Child abuse horrifies EVERYONE. So, Trump is flailing because hardly anyone believes what he says or what his people say anymore. Look at what’s happened the last few times he’s been able to talk on TV. It’s all been nonsense. And it makes the US look like idiots ruled by a dementia patient shouting from the roof of the White House.
The new job numbers and the revisions of recent months’ reports, however, more than anything else, have economists pointing to a recession. That means Trump’s approval is dropping further. And that means the resistance builds. The numbers are indeed a mortal threat, and Trump is desperate for sure, causing him to engage in further reckless actions. But unlike other autocrats he’s emulating, a sizeable majority of people are not happy just seven months after he’s taken power, and many of them are increasingly angry. That’s what we must continue to harness.
Keep the pressure on Trump. Show him we don’t believe him anymore. Put the truth out there. Truth is what will take him down, including Epstein, of course. Go to town halls. Let our elected representatives know that enough is enough. Take back our country and bring back the America we knew just 8 months ago, before this idiot got back into power.
Friends, I know everybody begs you for money. I promise you that of all of the outlets bugging you for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest working. We’re a bunch of old, disabled people, with the exception of one writer in his mid-50s. But the rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the ability to keep going in our quest to tell the truth about Trump and see democracy survive. If you can help, please do. Thanks. Ursula
