We have met the enemy, and they are dumb

If you watched GOP Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds GOP response to the President’s State of the Union tonight, then you had a sneak preview of what GOPtards are going to be talking about in August and September. And it is thin gruel indeed. And one simple fact shone through. The woman is basically a completely incompetent moron.

In a rambling almost 15 minute speech, Reynolds did  everything in her power to avoid talking about anything that Biden talked about in his SOTU address, while slavishly trying to find ways to integrate every cogent GOP 2022 talking point into her speech. In short, it was a hot mess.

  • Reynolds made some fatuous artificial argument about Democratic governors locking people in their state down, and then sneaking off south for a nice warm vacation. Sweet Jesus! Didn’t she get the memo about TX Senator Cancun Teddy Cruz packing up his family in the middle of a catastrophic statewide power outage, and boogying off to Cancun to stay warm?
  • She proudly touted her role in being one of the first governors to mandate that schools be reopened during the middle of a pandemic, without bothering to mention the fact that for several months Iowa had one of the highest COVID infection rates in the country, and the hospitals were in crisis
  • She proudly touted her restraint in ordering statewide mask mandates, giving citizens freedom of choice, again ignoring the fact that for several months Iowa had one of the highest COVID infection rates in the country, and the hospitals were in crisis
  • She went on to extol the virtues of parents having control over the curriculum in their local schools, paying homage to the clear GOP push to revise the history that is taught in schools
  • She bitched out the Democrats for seeking to marginalize Americans by separating them by race, thereby giving lip service to the ever popular critical race theory drumming through GOP circles

There was more insipid stupidity, but unfortunately I went into a moron coma, I’m sorry. But the important thing to remember is that Reynolds is no slobbering Trombie. If she’s pushing this lame shit in the GOP response to the SOTU, these are highly likely to be serious talking points in the primaries and the general election. After all, the RNC chooses the person who responds to the SOTU, and this RNC is not going to go against Trump. Don’t touch that dial.

  1. Was it ONLY fifteen minutes. It seemed like a lot longer, especially with her repeating lies and trying to serve up the same bullshit sandwiches which differed only in the condiments. About the only good thing is, as it seemed to go on forever is that if one day I am diagnosed with a fatal disease I can put her speech on a loop playback and each day will feel like a fucking eternity!

  2. I couldn’t listen to more than the first few minutes. These disingenuous, bad-faith actors piss the hell out of me. Cynical asshats, every disgusting one of them.

Well, as I mentioned in an earlier article, here in Alabama, that’s EXACTLY what’s been going on with the GOPers in their races. Especially the BS about critical race theory. The gubernatorial candidates are out there talking about how “hate isn’t taught in Alabama” (I don’t know how they say it with a straight face–true, it isn’t taught as a school subject but kids learn from what they see at home just as much as what they see at school). They’re also pushing a little bit of crap over the mask issue but they conveniently leave out the fact that Miss Kay DID basically shut down the state (not fully) for several months and the state didn’t go as far as some of its other GOP-controlled states and put out orders that blocked businesses from issuing their own mask requirements (surprisingly, there really wasn’t that much outrage or complaint from the local MAGAts) and, of course, they’re conveniently forgetting how the state’s hospitals were running at more than 100% capacity for the better part of two months (meaning there were more people needing to be hospitalized than there were beds for them to use) and over the whole COVID pandemic, the state has only managed to come down to more-or-less normal bed-occupancy rates since last September.
And, of course, none of the candidates are complaining about Federal money (that BIDEN approved and requested) being sent to Alabama to help fund a variety of projects, even as they complain about Biden and the “socialists” and “far-left liberals” and their “agenda.”

Anyone familiar with “The Lathe of Heaven?” Well, right now I really wish I could dream away all the Republicans in Alabama (hell, I’m ready to dream away all the Republicans everywhere who’ve chosen the path of Trump) just so we could have a return to some level of civility (yeah–I see the irony there but live with it or you’ll be the next one I dream about removing!).

  4. I give u guys credit. I’d rather listen to nails scraping a blackboard. Besides, if I wanted to listen to inanity & lies, or hear what Jesus told someone in the shower, I’d just call my ex-wife. I lost the ability to tolerate frump’s voice a long time ago. Stupidity is required for that death cult. Like Ms. T&A shouting while Biden is discussing the cancer rates among war vets & the death of his son due to brain cancer.

  5. Take this as a good sign, folks. If that’s the best they got at a time when Ukraine is getting blown to hell and back again, the midterms may be WAY easier than we were expecting. With COVID restrictions and numbers on the downswing, their best arguments are going away and Trump has so compromised the GQP on all things Russian that the rot will continue from the neck down.

    • I don’t remember who it was but one pundit reacting to the SOTU response was that the GOP has chosen to place a bet that a new variant of Covid will break out and create some more havoc at the right time before the election that it will damage Democrats at the ballot box. You know what? I believe a LOT of Republicans are sick, twisted fuckwads who will literally pray for something like that to happen.

      • Of course they will. Given 75% of us are now fully vaccinated,(thanks president Biden), I bet the remaining 25% are mostly gop/cult members,(not counting u folks with VALID medical reasons, not some bullshit excuse like religious exemptions). Is it a good idea to want to thin the ranks of ur voters? Me thinks not. One thing I’ve learned in 68 years is be very careful what u ask or pray for…u just might get it.

        • Being agnostic divine intervention is something I of course don’t count on or bother wishing for. I know and respect many people of faith and am respectful of their views as those who matter are respectful of mine. We don’t try to shove our viewpoints down each other’s throats. Still, having grown up being raised as a Christian (and being exposed from an early age to people who practiced Judaism and Islam) I can’t help but question this loving and merciful god in which they place their faith. What kind of god would allow so many of the things I’ve learned have happened in world history, or things I have witnessed in my lifetime including awful people weilding great power? How can someone like Putin be allowed to exist and do what he does if there is a just and loving god? I try to be a good person, even if over recent years I’ve found it increasingly difficult to do so. Is wishing I had that sonfabitch in my sights and could squeeze the trigger and blow his head to pieces a bad thing? Does that make me a bad person? Because I can assure you the only thing I’d feel in the moment is my finger squeezing the trigger. And for however long I lived afterwards the one thing I know I wouldn’t feel is the slightest bit of guilt for having rid this world of that man.

          • Regarding God. Whether you believe in him or not, he gave us the freedom of choice regarding our actions. If we go down the wrong path, eventually we will be punished.

          • That’s what I was taught growing up and believed for a time into my adulthood and on the surface there’s a logic to it. The part where it falls apart (for me and others I know) is the punishment part. Countless innocent people including those who are people of faith and make a real effort to be good people and put that faith into practice have suffered greatly and died at the hands of various powerful and evil people. Some of whom claim to be people of faith. Or actually DO believe in God but don’t think the rules apply to them because they are special. Or that even if some of their actions are cruel that god will understand because when they “succeed” with their earthly agenda they will have advanced “god’s will/plan.” It’s all that pain and suffering innocent people have suffered because an INDIVIDUAL made a choice to reject say the teachings of for example Christ.

          • Hear, Hear. I totally agree with your assessment delliott. I was raised in a Catholic house and learned at a very early age that there is no just god.

  6. Opinions in Iowa of Kimmie the Kashier are pretty evenly split, and her idea if transparency is to bar the press from the state house floor. I’m not so sure that even the Hy-Vee would giver her her grocery checker job back,

  7. Being from this very RED State of Iowa, I’m continually amazed at how every time the Republicans get the top positions in the political factor, the money people control so much, get so many changes made to their advantage in everything from tax breaks to contracts …

So, with this Dim Wit Governor Kim Reynolds, Older than air, Grassley, and pig caller Ernst, we are saddled with enormous pools of idiots running things … Reynolds has avoided reporting deaths in Iowa from Covid-19, since day one, always about tests and their results and hospital over-loading, front line care people and their overloaded minds/bodies and even sleep problems, apparently, never rated her personal concern …

It’s a tough nut to crack, so much money floats these A-holes into their office positions and the Democratic, “We The People”, is fast being slipped into a relic oddity at the museums and libraries of historical information …

The fact is, NO ONE IS ABOVE THE LAW, except Trump and his crew taking down the Capitol Building, at least, it appears that way with all the rhetoric and stupidity the comes from the Republican old guard, the GOP smell is atrocious …
